I had been sent home by the nurse to my very upset mother. She questioned what had happened, but I didn’t want to give too much away to upset her. So I lied and told her I had accidentally spilled the chemicals on myself. She then proceeded to call me a dumbass.
Lovely, isn’t she?
My mom had dropped me off at home, but left because she needed to return to work. The first thing I did when I got home was rush to the fridge. Sure enough, there was a new container of apple juice that Jerry and Louie didn’t get the chance to touch yet. I grabbed it from the shelf off the fridge and poured myself a glass.
That was some good apple juice.
I took my apple juice and decided to watch some television. Tabby had texted me that she’d come over a little later to see how I was doing and bring me some peanut butter oatmeal cookies. They were my favorite, and as soon as I found out, I got a little excited that Tabby was coming over. It was slightly challenging to find peanut butter oatmeal cookies, so Tabby always baked them for me when she got the chance.
Tabby was an amazing baker; I, on the other hand, was not. I have burned water before. Don’t ask me how, but I’ve done it.
Jerry came home after a little while, followed by Louie, of course. He immediately dropped his things and rushed over to where I was sitting.
“Hey, Kat. Mom called and told me what happened,” he said. I took a sip from my apple juice and stared at him.
“Is that... is that my apple juice?” he asked. I smiled.
“Nah, it’s beer,” I stated, showing him a light smile. He shook his head, but soon his attention was brought to my arm.
“How bad is it?” he asked. Louie calmly came over to see what Jerry and I were talking about. I slowly and gently removed a corner of the gauze to show them the oozing blisters. Jerry freaked out and looked away.
“God, you’re so stupid. You did that to yourself?” he asked, taking a little peek at it again. I threw him a look and shook my head.
“Nah, this chick named Lacey spilled it on me. Don’t tell Mom, though. I told her I did it myself,” I explained, covering up the blister again. Louie sat down beside me on the couch.
“Oh, you poor thing. You want me to kiss you and make you feel better?” he asked suggestively, puckering his lips. I rolled my eyes at him, trying to move away. Jerry shook his head and went to the kitchen.
“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that,” I heard him say. I heard a clink of a glass and smiled. Jerry was getting himself some apple juice. Louie draped his arm around my shoulders.
“Well, the offer is always available,” he added. I shrugged his arm off of me.
“No, thanks,” I muttered, crossing my arms.
“Hey, is Tabby coming over later?” Jerry asked. I was sure Jerry was used to seeing Tabby around the house, but it was weird he’d question it if she was coming over.
“Yeah, why?” I asked. Louie tried to put his arm around me again, but I glared at him. He quickly moved his arm away and turned to look the other direction.
“Just wondering,” was Jerry’s response. I didn’t give it much thought after that. Jerry was about to sit down and join us until I heard a vibration coming from his front pocket.
