"Why isn't magic easier?" Jacob sighed into his hands. "Dad always said magic should be of second nature, yet its like hitting a bloody pigeon with a bargepole" Taking his head out of his hands, he began to wipe the scattered pieces of egg off of the glossy wooden counter.

Magic didn't come to Jacob like his Dad had said all those years ago, it never worked properly for him, any spell that came directly from his body always ended up exploding or backfiring in some horrible way.

His current fuck up consisted of trying to fry an egg with nothing but heat magic, but unfortunately -but foreseeably- the spell had backfired and now he had an eggy, burnt mess all over the walls.

"Okay so...." Jacob paused for a moment, thinking. "Make egg breakfast, failed, Order books from the library, yep. Find Rod of Scrying, no clue." Jacob sighed at that last one, the rod allowed him to see slightly into the future, and he had lost in one of the houses back rooms, and at this point Jacob was half convinced that the rooms were now teleporting because they seemed to be different every time he went to find it.

"Collect herbs from the forest, Sure, that one seems simple enough on a day like today" Jacob always enjoyed when his Dad would take him out to collect stuff for spells, he would always get him to climb trees and pick stuff off them, of course it wasn't as fun now but it was still somewhat enjoyable.

He could feel some uneasiness in the air, he didn't even need the rod to know something bad was on its way.
