Hiruma is not one to show any appreciation to others directly. He'll appreciate your work in his own way (silent kicking to your back normally) Mamori knows this trait of his quite well and secretly appreciates that doesn't matter how much he teased her about her love to certain pastry, there's always seem to be fresh creampuffs in the clubhouse during their training. She smiles as she looked at the picture they took after winning the Christmas Bowl. 'We did it. We really did it.' She thought with a sad smile. 'And now it's over'

She walks out of the clubhouse after finishing her chores. Looking at the bright and clear blue sky. It's a bit chilly that morning. And there's no training today so it seems very quiet and peaceful. Hiruma had given the rest of the team much needed break after they won. Well more like Kurita insisted they celebrated and they ended up staying so late and they decided to take the next day off and relax for the rest of their holiday til new year.

It's still early and only few students are in since it's holiday and the student committee is in to finalise the year and get the candidates for next year. She's done cleaning up after their party yesterday and finished her committee work. She went out of the clubhouse and about to lock the door before she heard some noise from the field.

She went up to the field only to find certain spikey blonde throwing football from one end to the other end of the field. He's not wearing his football gear. Just his school shirt. His jacket lying on the bench along with his gun and towel and water bottle. His long slender arms stretched out across the sky and the ball flew with accuracy hitting the same spot over and over with such speed. He's so engrossed with his training he didn't realise he's no longer alone.

Mamori looks at him for a few seconds before walking up to him and offer him a towel she had picked up from the bench. 'Here.' she said with a soft smile on her face.

This seems to have startled the boy for a second, his feline eyes widened before he returned to his normal poker face and took the towel. Wiping the sweat off his face. From the looks of it he must have been at it for a while. 'Tch. What are you doing here damn manager. No practice till next week' he said while taking a sip from his water bottle. They walked back to the bench.

'Yet here you are' she said calmly sorting out some of the mess from the bench so he can sit down. 'I don't need you to be here to babysit me' he hissed at her ignoring the bench space she cleaned up for him.

'You must really love it huh...' she said suddenly looking at the field with such longing eyes. She knows she's gonna miss this feeling. The rush from each games. Creating strategies, analysing the opponents data, being part of the team that achieve such goals and the challenges along with it. She knows how hard he work to make such a dream come true and she admires him for that. Despite his appearance and his constant teasing, he's done nothing but pushed everyone in the team to be better and challenge themselves further. 'Hiruma-kun, you're a good ma- captain (she changed it last minute after thinking that twice)... Wish I can be like that..' she thought out loud (unknowingly)

'Tch. What are you babbling about fucking manager' he said. Sitting down next to her. Looking at the field. The balls he threw around earlier scattered at the other side of the field. 'Stop talking nonsense' he said while taking one of his favourite gum in and started chewing and popping out bubble. 'You know you're just as important as the rest of those pipsqueaks. We wouldn't have made it happen if it weren't for you.' He said it so easily like it's a fact. Like grass is green. Snow is cold. She looks at him surprised he said that (out loud). Hiruma, still looking at those balls he threw earlier, popping another bubble 'you've helped us. A lot. In your own way you're leading them as well. You're a good woman Anezaki' he said, turning his face toward her with a smile showing his toothy fangs. It's not one of his grin or smirk or devilish face either. It's an actual smile. Proud and happy and filled with emotion just like any other normal person.

She looks at him stunned. It seems like years but only few seconds passed. The wind breezes through them but she can't seem to look away from his gaze. She can feel a small blush building up on her cheeks. Her heart beats faster. She bit her lower lip ever so slightly and looked away., staring at the field again 'Did he just call me by my name?' She thought recalling the last few seconds in her brain. Thump thump thump. She can hear her heart beats even faster. 'Did he just compliment me?'

Thump thump thump thump

She didn't dare to look at his face as she can feel her face is turning hotter by the second. Her ears are turning red.

She knows him well enough to tell that he was serious in his remarks and he actually meant it. Same seriousness he only shows during his games and when they need to come up with insane strategies to win. But this was different. It's not football. There's no game to win. There's no strategy to be made. It's just simple conversations between two people who (if she's not mistaken about him) admire and respect each other.

Mamori holds her breathe as she tried to compose herself before responding to the blonde quarterback. She can finally calm her heart for a bit, holding her hand close to her chest and taking a deep breathe in and out. It seems like forever though only few seconds passed. 'I should say something' she thought. 'Th-' Mamori was about to turn to face him before she felt a light cold tips on her hot cheeks. A long slender arm snakes behind her neck pulling her closer. His blonde hair brushes her skin softly (despite its appearance that looks like it could stab someone, his hair is quite soft)

'Thank you, Anezaki' a small whisper in her ear. Hiruma's voice is soft and deep but as clear as the sky that morning.

It lasted for only a second and she can feel him left her side and went back to the field. The towel he just used lying on the bench where he sat earlier. His back walking further away from her sight.

Mamori touched her right cheek where she felt a light kiss earlier. Holding her chest even tighter than earlier with her left hand. Blushing furiously red and all the calmness she managed earlier just vanished. All she could hear now is her heart beating so fast and the lingering voice in her ear. Her eyes fixated on the quarterback who's back throwing the balls around. The wind breezed through but this time she didn't feel cold at all. If anything she's feeling feverish except on her right cheek where certain kiss landed.

Thump thump thump

The new season is coming up... spring.
