It's Halloween. Come on, who would think otherwise? From the hanging skeleton my neighbour would put up facing my patio, the pumpkin decorations that I put up on my kitchen even if I don't like it, and the 'spooky' vibe that some children say they can sense. Ugh, I never liked Halloween. It is the most uneventful occasion of the year. It is just the season where you can listen to some friends' narration of a random horror story they probably heard in the internet to scare some kids off. It is the same every year. Come on, where is the thrill in that?
It is another day full of negativity. I started the day with waking up, not by the alarm clock, but by the sound of my neighbours quarrelling. For a change, I didn't skip over washing the dishes and doing some light cleaning. It is probably because I woke up earlier than my alarm clock. I may have clocked in early but the way our boss and customers treat us? Some rudely while other silently judging? That is one of the many reasons why I want to quit my job in customer service.
Nighttime. I just got out of the bus I had boarded. I am walking back at home tired and drained. I would've loved going to the spooky party one of my co-workers invited me in but I want to rest. I am so tired with living my life with no change what-so-ever. Everything has been so plain, and everyday, I find myself doing everything repetitively. I don't meet up with my friends before. I want to but I am not really fond with a huge crowd, even if I really know them personally. Plus, I don't really like to see Samantha with Darren.
I was just about to turn around the corner when I felt a hand tapping me on my back. I turned around, startled. It is a child, wearing a white dress and a long, straight, black wig. I let out a small laugh, stopping myself from pinching her cheeks from how cute she is. She looked like a mini-white lady. Only, she looked way too cute to be one. She tilts her head at the side, as if confused at why I laughed. Oh! If only she realise how I want to pinch her from how cute she is!
She showed me her small pumpkin basket, which made me remember my own pumpkin basket back at home filled with candy. Internally, I face-palmed. I should have brought candy with me!
"Trick or treat!" She told me, looking at me from head to toe.
I don't really mind the way she looks at me. I mean, my day has been hectic. Surely, the stress and negativity might've reflected on my expression and face. If kids like her approached me in this state, I am sure anyone in their group of friends will think they are brave. I'm not even exaggerating. I let out a sigh.
"You look great in red." The child said.
I merely raised an eyebrow at her. I am caught off guard at what she said. I looked at my shirt, which is red. I finally pinch her cheeks, letting a small laugh again.
"Thank you." I replied, smiling. I patted my pockets to see if I still have any candy on me. I let out a happy gasp and took the only candy I had and gave it to her. "I'm sorry that's the only thing I have on me. I can get you more if you want?" The kid is sweet in her own way. And I never really get much compliments these day so I might as well spoil her.
A smile reached on her face, holding both of her hands open to take the candy from me. "You're so generous! If only I can get back for your kindness, hehe~!" She giggled sweetly. She quickly opened the wrapper and ate it eagerly.
