So, back to school. After two days we finally have to return to that nightmare. I wasn't very happy about it, but I'm sure Maya was extremely excited to come back after five years of being gone. When we were younger we would ride bikes to school, I didn't think she would be able to, and I was right. I looked around the area where we used to meet. I sigh, she was nowhere to be seen. Then suddenly something hit me that should have hit me when we found her. Things will never be the same again.
I ride down the empty streets to school. I had passed a few houses and was only about a third of the way there, then I see it. A figure standing on the other side of the road. I would have just shrugged it off and rode away, but I didn't. This figure wasn't normal. It was contorting and twisting. It was a shadow. It was the man in my dreams.
I came to a halt, almost throwing myself over the handlebars. I stare at him. For a moment it felt as if I slipped away from reality. Its eyes had a story behind them. I wanted to know. Then I heard a voice not from the shadow, but from reality. It was Maya,"Hey idiot, watch out!" She said. I came back to and looked to my right. A car was speeding towards me. "Shit!" I said before grabbing my bike and dashing on to the sidewalk.
She looked at me. "What were you looking at?" She said. I look back, and It was gone. "N-nothing, let's get to school.
We ride down the road, and suddenly I'm taken back to that day. The day I lost my best friend. We arrive at school and chain our bikes up to the rack. The ride there had been silent, but that didn't matter. What mattered was getting in and out of school untouched. We walk into the school and go to our lockers as fast as we can. She coincidentally had the locker next to mine so we got our stuff together and hurried down the hallway. We got to class and sat at some desks near the window. It felt odd sitting next to her again. The last time we sat next to each other was 5th grade.
It was almost sad, but it made me feel good. The bell rang and we walked out of class, then two girls approached us and pushed us. "Watch where you're going freak," She said. Maya seemed upset, but I told her to shrug it off. She nods and we walk to our classes. I told her not to worry about the Lane Sisters and that they had their heads stuck too far up their vagina.
The rest of the day was pretty normal. We finished class then rode our bikes home. We passed the area where I saw It. "So what were you looking at earlier?" She asked. I hesitated then told her, everything. She looked mortified. The rest of ride home was quiet. She knew something, but I tried to keep an open mind about what she went through. So for a while, I kept my mouth shut.
