 Back At The Crib

Two Days After Leaving Jamaica

Sunday 11am

Hyde Park, Mass.

Onyx reached in his backpack, squinted one eye with a lit blunt in the corner of his mouth. He handed his boy a white envelope. "We're on to bigger better things." He bragged. "Shit yeah. Lotta years bro but damn this medication they got me take'n i hope don't fuck with my dick. That's the shit i'm worried about." Jacy responded. He grabbed the envelope, stuffed it in his back jean pocket. By the thickness, he estimated he'd given him about twenty thousand. He didn't feel the need to count it since he trusted him with his life. Onyx's residence was his first trip out the house after the shooting. Walking over to the bed, he addressed Jacy while thumbing through large bills. "If ya dick was big like mine you'd have something to worry about ahite?" He joked, then slid twelve thousand from under the corner of his mattress. "Fuck you. I taught you everything you know so that automatically makes these nuts qualify for their own zip code. Please stop get'n this shit twisted." Jacy said lightheartedly. They laughed. Onyx quickly got real. "Think again." He pierced with dead eyes, gave a serious face then went back to situating his money and product. "Where's ya mother?" Jacy asked curiously. "She went to BJ's with Lex. In my whip of course. I hit'em off with a little bundle. They skated out of here before i could blink. Helped both them get luxury joints and they steady take mine." "Ya too easy on'em dawg. They know you're not gonna put ya foot down." "I'm easy on you." Onyx said with a smirk. "How? Let a brotha know." Jacy turned up his mouth. "I gave you twenty two. By right it should've been less according to the work you did but shit i was feeling extra generous since our new connect's hit'n us off lovely." Onyx retrieved his two phones from the dresser. He checked them. One, blown up from drug calls. The other, Mia, Nyla, his mother and a few new women figuratively set it on fire from calling so much. Lexi paced her calls to him to keep him attracted and interested. "Flint in on it?" Jacy wanted to know. "Of course." "Nah, i was just saying. You know how i like specifics. Miscommunication's nobody's friend." "Indeed." Onyx cosigned. He hit the blunt, inhaled, passed it. "Mom's told me what happened. My deepest apologies dawg. Sometime she don't be taking her meds. She skip days and expect to think rationally." Jacy admitted, taking a long drag filling his mouth with smoke, cheeks resembled the late great Dizzie Gillespie. "I ain't gonna lie, she went straight ham. I didn't know she felt like that about us." "She just scared for me that's all." "Yeah, but you've been able to count on us since the corner store days. She used to invite us in, offer us sandwiches and shit. It looked like her but I really couldn't tell." Onyx walked to the closet and tossed his bag way in the back. "Ever since pops bounced couple years ago she ain't been the same." "Damn." "So i gotta be the man of the house. She just want what's best for me." "I feel what ya saying and of course we have enough to make that move but we have to be easy. Truth to power, it's time to be king of ya own castle. Fuck the dumb shit. Me and Lex working on it as we speak." "Nah, i can't leave her. Not yet. Maybe when she's more stable." Jacy lowered his head in sadness. He wondered just how long was it going to take or if she'd ever be mentally stable again. He passed the blunt back to his boy. "Need a favor." Onyx mentioned with a peculiar look. "What?" "I took this chic to Jamaica and left her. Not on purpose but i can't make it back. I need you to call her. Tell her i got arrested, you're a close friend, ya not sure of the location but ya working on bail. Can you handle that?" "I guess but shit why all the bullshit? You know how insane women get plus i'm still healing i don't need the drama in my life for real." "Listen, you look fine to me nigga and if ya gonna complain about it then give me that extra loot back so i can pay someone to assist me with things i got goin on. Damn." Onyx was annoyed, explaining with his hands. "What's the number?" Jacy blew his breath, looked down at his cell. "So we miraculously capable of helping our fellow man now? Hi five." Onyx spoke with a tad of humor. He put his hand up. Jacy ignored him for a few seconds then reluctantly connected his hand with his. "Ahite nigga, let's get it over with. I promised this chic i'd slide through. I'm this close to get'n them panties off bro." He pinched his fingers together. "I feel you. I don't mean no harm, but please, let's make better decisions when it come to the paths we take. I warned you before but for some reason you think ya invincible." Onyx patted his boy on the shoulder. "I hear you." "And by the way, them niggas got something coming. You don't just hit one of ours and don't expect repercussions." Onyx continued. "Dude hopped out on me dawg! I'm minding mine, he leap from the dumpsters!" Jacy stretched out his arms. "We get to tussling and shit. Next time. Trust. Shit gone play out an entirely different way." He nodded, confirming the next time an attempt was made on his life. "Fuh sho." Onyx handed his boy his phone. "It's the first call on the list." "This one?" "Yeah, hit star six seven. Name's Mia. Control ya breathing. Women pick up on the smallest things. Make her understand you'll get back to her later." "Ahite." Jacy scrolled, pressed buttons, lifted the phone to his ear, waited. Onyx stood over him, careful not to make a sound. She answered on the first ring.
