Song for the Chapter: Therapy, All Time Low
The next day, Eva woke up with much less dread then she experienced the day before. She'd texted with Theo and Spencer all night, leaving her exhausted but genuinely excited to go see her new friends. Her classes were different than yesterday, meaning she had more classes with Sam, Jane, and Alex then Spence and Theo. She didn't know them well yet, but from the conversation they had at lunch, they seemed just as great. Soon, with the yells of Brendon from downstairs, Eva got out from her bed and ran to the bathroom to get ready.
Today she opted for a tie-dyed crop top and black leggings with boots and a cardigan. Her now turquoise hair was pulled into double braids and she wore the lightest touch of makeup she could muster, simply concealer and powder to take the darkness from under her eyes and blush to add more contrast. She seemed satisfied enough and grabbed her black and navy bass from her room and walked downstairs.
"Mornin' darling," Brendon sang from the stove top. Eva smiled and hugged him gently before swiping the keys from the counter top and getting the hard shell case from the studio. She had independent music study again with Theo today, the only class that repeated everyday, and wanted to bring her bass and practice. When she walked back in, her dad had moved from the stove to the table, sipping coffee and reading something intently on his phone. "Can you teach me piano?" Eva asked abruptly, startling Brendon from his phone. After a moment of registering the question, he nodded curtly and smiled. He stood up and led his daughter to the piano that sat in the living room. Eva knew basic chords and the idea of it, but she wanted to master it.
The man sat next to her and guided her hands through major chords and explained pedaling. She picked it up quick, leaving Brendon in pure shock as to how she just thinks about the directions and automatically knows the instrument. Eva only shrugged, replying "It comes naturally." He laughed and shook his head as he stood up and grabbed the keys. Eva had disappeared upstairs to get her bag and returned, yelling a goodbye and 'love you' to Sarah from the bottom of the stairs. "Ready?" Brendon asked, carrying her bass for her. She nodded until Brendon grabbed an apple from the counter and tossed it to her. Eva only groaned, leaving Brendon to look slightly sad. "Please? For me?" he asked her as they walked out the front door to the car. He was answered with the sound of chewing and he smiled.
The duo backed out from the drive and settled into the silence. "You haven't been skipping meals again, have you?" he asked the girl sitting in the passenger seat. "Only when I'm anxious or tired." Eva was monotoned as the topic was brought up. "It's really infrequent now, but I just hate it still sometimes, Dad." He nodded sympathetically. "I didn't eat lunch yesterday, and I had to tell my friend everything." More fear built up the pit of the older's stomach, but he tried to let it settle. "Text me if you feel like not eating okay? We can go see Dr. Miranda too if you want. I know you hate doctors, but he may help you feel better about eating." Eva nodded, for the first time liking the sound of getting help. "Can you call him today and set up an appointment?" The question took Brendon by surprise, but he smiled as he nodded happily. They were at the entrance of the school and Eva got out, receiving a kiss on the head and getting her bass from the back seat. She munched carefully on the apple as she walked towards a small group of kids her age. Eva waved back to her dad as he pulled out from the parking lot. He stopped and pulled his phone out, texting Pete.
brendon: Eva wants to get help for her eating issues, she asked me to make an appointment
The Fall Out Boy member stared at the text and grinned. He felt better about Eva knowing she was reaching out.
pete: That's amazing, Bren. She really wants to get better and that's all thanks to you and Sarah. Feel proud, man.
The conversation ended there, with both men having pride and hope well up inside them.
