-Run Like Hell-Sylas ran with his heart in his throat. The clanking of iron on his armour didn't seem to help with the trembling fear in his heart. He knew what war was like.
And he never forgot it.
The metallic smell of blood, the screams of wounded men, the bloodlust in their eyes. He couldn't blame them, for he knew when his enemies gazed upon him, all they saw was the merciless thirst for killing.
Seth though, Seth only regretted that he didn't get to say goodbye in person. But Odette is going to be fine. She has Sylas' shield, and the battle was in town, a couple hundred yards from the castle.
But the horn. . .
That horn is what sends the fear into the soldiers' hearts. Seth felt it, the shake that resonated into the marrows of his bones. Paul went to rally the armies needed. But even he knows that many will die. These creatures are new experiences, no one has ever fought them before. Until this year.
Crom is on the move. Why was he doing this now? No one could answer. Perhaps he felt the rise in Odette's powers. In just a few short moons, she's already improved a lot.
Not enough to save her from a battle of brutes.
"Where is she?" Saoirse asked when seeing her brothers.
"In her room, with a shield," Seth replied. Though that problem between the two haven't been solved, it still wouldn't hurt to answer a few of each other's questions.
"That won't be enough. Go back and warp her far away."
"Could you not overthink so much for once?" Seth snapped, and Sylas looked away.
Saoirse's nostrils flared. Sapphire pushed between them, stopping the second war from happening.
"We need to go now. Uncle Paul is already there," she said.
"How can you under-react to something like this?" Saoirse asked, taking a daring step towards the younger twin. "You know how important she is. We must get her away from here—"
"The battle won't make it this far—"
"That doesn't mean his cronies won't—"
Giving a pointed look to Saoirse, Sapphire cut her off. "Let's take the horses. Three minutes as the crow flies."
Saoirse and Seth stared down each other. But being the bigger person, the former snarled and stomped away.
"You shouldn't put up with her," Sapphire mumbled.
"She shouldn't put up with me," he replied.
No one spoke as the four rode on their horses. It was dangerous. One of them should be at the castle, watching over the three. There were no guards stationed, no maids to alarm them. Don't let it get into your head, Saoirse thought.
Caw! Caw!
Three black figures flew above the galloping horses. It is no mystery that ravens guide wolves to the hunt. For the meal rewarded was worth the risk.
