Elena Gilbert's P.O.V
"Damon? Where are you?" I cried as I stepped further into the fire. "Elena, I'm here please help! But be careful," he shouted in the distance, I saw Damon on the floor in the kitchen. He had a steak in his stomach and the fire swallowed him. I could only just get a glance of his terrified face, but I knew what I had to do. I started walking towards the fire but then Stefan and Klaus came in. I don't remember the details, it was 345 years ago. But Klaus compelled me to turn off my humanity and I ran away from the fire... leaving Damon Salvatore to die.
I haven't been to Mystic Falls since my humanity eventually turned back on and I was forever eaten by guilt. Instead, I decided to distract myself from the pain and to start new and forget the past because I had an eternity ahead. So I moved to a small town called Spring Green in Wisconsin not far from Chicago. For 300 years I actually lived with Stefan and we were together and married, we were really happy but then we decided to become friends and he married Caroline. Eventually, they moved to another town in Sauk called Delton.
I loved Spring Green it was beautiful but it was small and underpopulated which meant I was the only vampire and I had no chance at another love. I have gone on some dates with humans and occasionally slept with some but nothing went far. I really felt like I was alone. I had the idea of taking a small vacation over to Delton to see how Caroline and Stefan were doing but then I realised I was looking for someone to love... a vampire. So I knew the perfect place, Chicago. Chicago was full of vampires and... hot people so it seemed like the perfect place to go.
My decision was final, I was going to stay at the Sheraton Grand in Downtown Chicago. My flight would leave at 9 pm tonight although it would only be for one hour. I have compelled first class seats and a guy with a limo to drive me around, his name is Kevin.
