The room was silent, me sitting there in the gym, after one of the worst days of my life. It was back tomorrow, which would soon become the worst day of my life. The end of the school year was coming, but that didn’t stop them. I was supposed to be in Drama Club, being the only club I had signed up for because you had to sign up for at least one, and no one cared if you showed up to it or not, because it only existed to join and desert. I paced back and forth, and then decided to attempt to play Johnny Romero's tuba that he had left over on the side of the stage. As I struggled to pick it up ‘correctly’ I heard the loud doors open, and two separate pairs of feet go in.
“Well, I don’t know!” A loud voice, which I recognized as Lily Owens echoed.
“Someone else?” a voice, who I couldn’t identify asked, “richer?”
“Kinda.” she squeaked. “Listen, I know you really like me and everything, but I’m sorry.”
“Ugggg!” the other voice, which I then realized was Noah Duncan’s bellowed as two smaller feet scurried out. He sat on the bench below the stage. I wanted so badly to talk to him, but I had like zero confidence, so I had no idea how to do that. I twirled my long ombre blue hair around.
“I bet I could help.” I said sitting down next to him, only on the stage so he could see my old worn out shoes; but he didn’t look up, so I pitched an idea; “what if you could pay a girl to be your girlfriend to make Lily jealous, you could get revenge.”
“I want revenge, but I also want her back.” he sighed, putting his face into his hands.
“So, just get back together with her when she wants to.” I said, getting hopeful. It wouldn’t last forever, but he might not choose me, and I’d be doing a favor for another girl.
“That would work except all the popular girls are mind-controlled by Lily, and they’d tell her.”
“So, someone pretty, but not popular.” I suggested, thinking, ‘he’s not the brightest crayon in the box.’
“There’s a girl in my class, but I can’t think of her name....”
“Courtney?” I laughed.
“Yeah.” he said, turning to me, “So, would you do it?”
“Sure,” I laughed, even though I had no idea where this conversation was going.
We both walked out of school, but not really together. This was like my dreams coming true, Noah, who I’ve had a crush on forever, was paying me, a social outcast who was bullied and ignored with blue hair and who dressed really dorkily, to be his girlfriend, so it wasn’t exactly my dream, my dream would be us actually dating.
“So where’s your car?” he asked, and he actually thought I had one.
