The sticks floated down the creek, one faster than the other.
The children raced along side the small creek, not knowing which one was theirs, but they did not care.
They had heard about Pooh Sticks from a book their mother read to them.
They decided to try it out without their mothers permission.
But the creek was in their backyard so what was the harm?
They only made it a few yards before the sticks got caught by a rock.
The brothers stood and watched, hoping the sticks would move on their own.
They did not.
Edward, the elder of the two, knelt down and tried to reach for the sticks, but they were out of reach.
Kyle, the younger of the two, squatted next to his brother and tried to do the same, though his arms were shorter.
Simultaneously they looked down at the water.
Something had splashed underneath their arms.
Kyle smiled and quickly thrust his hands into the water, pulling out a frog.
Edward laughed and touched the poor frog as it tried to wiggle to freedom.
They messed with the frog for a good half hour, until their mother called them from the backyard for them to come inside.
Edward told Kyle to put the frog back.
They both bid the frog goodbye and dropped it into the water.
They both watched as it swam to the other side, away from the giant monsters that had captured it.
Kyle stood up and started going back, then looked back at his brother, who had stayed behind.
Edward was frozen in place, watching the water in horror.
Kyle walked over, not too close though, and looked at the water.
He could see Edwards reflection. Yet it was different.
His eyes were dark and wild. Blood poured from his eyes and mouth.
Kyle laughed, thinking it was some sort of joke.
Edward turned.
Blood coming from his wild eyes and mouth, "help."
A long white arm broke through the water and grabbed Edwards neck, another, this one dark and black, covered in dripping black ooze, grabbed his head. The arms snapped his neck and dragged him under the water.
Kyle screamed and ran to his house.

The police soon came but in that shallow creek, a body could not be found.
