I exited the building and got into the car where Joffrey was waiting. Upon my entrance of the vehicle I was greeted by a swift punch to the gut. "What the Hell Michael, you think you could just come to New York and I wouldn't find out?" I looked up and to my surprise it was my younger sister, she ran the New York branch of my father's company and was regarded as a tyrant who would surely inherit my fathers' company. After catching my breath, I sat up and fixed my clothes.
"Samantha, what a pleasure to see you too. What bring you down here to see little ole me?" She narrowed her eyes and tapped the back of the privacy glass. Joffrey began to drive, Samantha let out a slight sigh before speaking.
"I actually had no plans of running into you, but you know things happen." Her answer wasn't very convincing. "The truth is father asked me to pay you a visit if you want to get down to the meat and potatoes of the actual visit then here it is." She crossed her legs the scent of lavender filled the air with a slight undertone of cigarettes. "Give me your shares into the company, I know that you inherited mothers' shares upon her death which set you in a very powerful place for someone who wants no involvement in the family business." I cleared my throat and spoke in an uninterested tone.
"Well, if that is all you came here for then I suppose you wasted a trip from your plush penthouse." The moment those words left my mouth I felt a sense of panic flow into my body.
"Oh, so you don't plan on giving me your shares. I felt that it would come to this, how about this, if you give me your shares, I will write a check... no better yet, I'll directly deposit six hundred million dollars into your account. I feel that should be worth the forty percent of the company equity our mother gave you and you can keep your birthright portion of the company which totals to about five percent. Which is the same as my birthright portion of the company. Mother and father held forty percent in company equity each. Which brings me to my next point, Michael you own forty-five percent of the company, I currently own about thirty-five percent including my birthright portion. I open the floor to comments, questions, concerns and agreements" I looked at my sister and chuckled, this the woman that businessmen have nightmares about it makes sense she's known as "The Witch."
"While you make some valid points of argument, what do you plan to gain by controlling seventy-five percent of the company, you would gain the power to out vote father? Control isn't about what you gain from the power it's how you use that power to maintain control while simultaneously influencing those around you." She knocked on the privacy glass again as Joffrey stopped the car, the door opened, and my sister exited the car.
"I'll contact you in two weeks to hear your answer, you've disappointed me today Michael I thought we would have a nice chat and then we could get lunch. But instead you've wasted my time and lost the chance to make a quick little six hundred million." She closed the door and the sound of a helicopter starting up could be heard outside, Joffrey lowered the privacy window slightly.
"Master Wilters, what will you do?" I looked out the window and sighed, we began to drive away.
"Take me back to the school Joffrey, I'm missing music theory. Besides pissing my father off seems to be a talent of mine, the only thing I seem to be good at. To give my sister the portion of the company my mother left me would it be the right thing to do. Its' not like I have no intention on voicing my opinions on which way the company goes, I'd rather not get involved but I wont stand by and watch my father and sister have their way either." The car stopped, we were at the school, Joffrey opened my door and I exited the car. "I won't need to be picked up this afternoon, I'll expect you tomorrow evening for the fundraiser event at approximately seven o'clock" Joffrey nodded and returned to the car and drove away. The faint smell of strawberries drifted into my nostrils; a familiar scent attached to a familiar face approached me.
"Hey Michael, right? It's me Sarah from the party." I looked at her in shock I was surprised she remembered me. "I know this must be a shock to you that I remembered who you were considering how drunk I was that night. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for being a standup guy and gentlemen." I smiled and extended my hand, she smiled back, and we shook.
"It was no problem, I have a younger sister and no matter how bratty she is to me I'd be hurt if someone took advantage of her whilst she was inebriated" Sarah chuckled at my comment her laugh was sweet, gentle and soft. I paused for a second and raised a brow. "How did you know that I was...well me?" She cantered her head slightly before replying.
"Well if I remember correctly, you were the guy that carried me to an empty room, put me into my pajamas and tied up my hair. I also faintly remember that you had short brown hair, green eyes but not a normal green your eyes are almost like emeralds. Besides when I asked about the night before I was told that the new rich boy on campus did all that stuff for me." I was taken back a bit I had no idea that I had received such a childish nickname, she continued. "I was also told to look for a person with a driver, and since you're the only person on campus that has a car to nice for the owner to drive it makes sense. Besides the guy you showed up with to the party, Derek I believe that's his name, I've seen him drive so it couldn't be him which meant it was you." I crossed my arms and looked at her.
"What makes you so sure that I'm rich, and that I'm the boy that people have been talking to you about?" With quickness she pointed at Joffrey who was waiting to leave the school lot and smiled.
"That car just dropped you off, not to mention you left the opening ceremony in a classic Rolls Royce. Your non flashy, but incredibly flashy wealth gave you away. I chuckled as ran my hands through my hair and over my face.
"Would you like to get a bite or maybe coffee?" Sarah nodded and as I started to walk away she didn't follow. "Is something wrong?" She shook her head and smiled.
"I can't go out with you today because I have arrangements already but tomorrow how about we meet up in the quad at the school coffeeshop" I nodded and we parted ways.
