The crowd roared and shook the stadium. Their screaming making my heart pump harder as it appears all time has slowed around me. My hands gripping my wooden bat, digging my left cleat into the dirt before me. The crowd makes inhuman noises and screams as the opposing team before me raises her knee, preparing for the pitch. We were getting close to the ending as I raise my bat higher. Blood surging all through me.

She releases the ball.

I inhale and stopped breathing as I swing the bat in almost appears to be slow motion. The fate of our team relied on me, the playoffs were close. This has to be the winning run.

The crowd screams my name.

The ball hits the bat and I hear the infamous crack of my bat breaking from the force. I look up as I unknowingly drop the remaining piece left, the ball within the moon light, higher than I have ever seen one go.

I exhale as I begin to sprint on all the bases, my heart beats in my head and in my ears. Second base, the crowd continues to scream the school chant as I turn sharply around the corner. My feet dig into the dirt while I beginning stop breathing. I race past third and I could see my team jumping and huddling around the last base. Home run. I could feel my adrenaline pace through my head while my foot pounded onto the last base.

The cheering finally came around. My team crowding around me, shaking me, rattling me, screaming, some crying, smacking my helmet and I finally inhale deeply. Screaming at the top of my lungs.

We won.

"Home run by player number four, Nevaeh Wilson! The Lady Ravens are going to the championship!" I hear over the speaker as the crowd begin to enter the softball field. Surrounding my team all at once, screaming our school chant.

"The Lady Ravens haven't been to the championship ever since 1978!" The man over the speaker came through.

It felt like hours, but it finally begin to settle down. The crowd still hollering while they exit to their vehicles.

Eve, my best friend finally emerges from the dissipating audience, running towards me.

Wrapping her arms around me. "You did it!" She screams. "We're going to the championship!"

"Can you calm down?" I laugh. Hugging back tightly. Her red hair up in a ponytail, green eyes flickering at me. Her clothes ravishingly like always, never failed to catch a mans eye.

"Calm down?" She jumps. "We just won the freaking game!"

"Okay, okay!" I laugh. "Let's get going."

I turn away and bend over, grabbing my helmet and broken bat pieces, I begin to look around to see if a certain couple were lingering around the field. "They're not here, Nevaeh. I already looked." Eve spoke over my thought.

I wasn't shocked. I don't know why I expected they would come along. "One game is good enough, right?" I sigh as I turn to face her. They were always on business trips, stuck at work. I guess my optimism about my parents was severely running thin, and my best friend could obviously tell. I couldn't say it didn't bother me, it clearly does, but who was I to complain to them? They give me a roof over my head and food on the table although they don't even notice when I'm gone for days at a time.

"Let's go over to my house and get washed up," She throws her arm over my shoulder and we begin walking towards the parking lot. "Besides, I heard there's gonna be a massive party tonight."

I roll my eyes. I don't do well at parties; no matter who were there, what was there, where it was at, or whatever cute boys it contained. It was always countless one night stands and I think that's how some girls at the school got pregnant to be honest. "Come on," Eve peeks up. "You have to go! We're celebrating your win."
