"Alright my Pup's, this-", I reach up and quickly switch the camera view button, "-is Goa." I announce excitedly. I was standing at the very beginning of a busy street market in the city of Goa, India, conducting a live stream for my insta-audience.
"See that stall?" I point to a booth about twenty yards ahead, surrounded by vibrant bouquets of exotic flowers. Switching the camera back to myself, I look into the camera and smirk, "I'm about to treat myself!" I say, squinting my eyes from the sun.
"Let's go see what we can find!" I swiftly pushed myself into the throng of brightly dressed shoppers. As I get close to a stall covered in vivid silks in a kaleidoscope of colors, I turn back to the camera, "I'm thinking about getting some of this for my mother", turning the camera to the piles of silks, I run my fingers over the smooth fabric, "Hey Em? If you're watching..." I bring the camera closer to my face, struggling to be heard over the rising voices, "What color is she into at the moment? I'm thinking a floral, maybe..."
I bring up my sister Emma quite a lot. For only being eleven, she quite likes watching my videos and staying up to date with what I'm up to. It kind of connects us even though we are half a world apart, so I ask for her opinion on things like this so she feels more included in my life. It was really hard to leave her and my family behind when I left the first time. It hasn't gotten easier, but I think she understands it now that she is a little older.
I scroll up on the screen to check the comments for her reply.
emmalemmalu Get that blue one on the edge of the table!
I look up and see a little corner of rich blue poking out from under stacks of fabrics at the edge of the table. "Alright the wizard-gifter has spoken" I gently tug at the corner of blue and pull it out so everyone can see. "Wow Em..." The silk was a dark rich blue with a subtle, slightly lighter blue floral design running through it. " They don't call you the wizard for nothing" I say flipping the camera back to me, "Great choice!" I put my hand in the air and high five at the lense laughing. I know I'm making a fool of myself, surrounded by all of these strangers but what the heck, I'm never going to see them again, so why not?
After paying for the fabric, I start down the narrow street once again. "There are a lot of things she could make with it, like.." I grimace slightly, "I don't know", I shrug, smiling, "She's the crafty one not me, but I know she'll love it."
As I get closer to the stall of flowers, the aroma hits me like I'm being drowned by them. "Ughh I wish I could send this scent to every single one of you guys!" I take a big deep breath in and freeze, face paling, another much more addicting scent hits me square in the chest, "Oh no", forgetting the live feed, I spin around frantically scanning the narrow market. "No, no, no. This can't be happening." At least three giant men were pushing their way through the masses of unsuspecting people, heads turning, searching. They had to be with him. He was close, I could feel it.
He found me.
My heart beating wildly out of my chest, I turn again, looking down the other side of the street, still gripping my phone. Another two burly men splitting the crowd with frustration. And then he was all I could see. Stepping out from behind his men, excitement and need fill my chest, my wolf begging me to go to our mate, her reaching out to his wolf. I still couldn't will my legs to move me from the scene unfolding in front of me. I know with few more moments, I won't be able to escape, but with my wolf gaining more and more control with every passing second, her will to stay was currently stronger than my own.
With people still moving around my rigid stance, I couldn't pry my eyes away from his angry form. Putting his hand out, stopping the men with him. I see him close his eyes, clench his jaw, and suck in a large breath through his nose. If he hadn't already caught my scent, I could tell he has now by the way that his muscular body went completely rigid, and the light smile that touched his face.
He slowly turned his head towards me, his eyes flashed open and instantly connected with my wide ones. My heartbeat spikes and suddenly the bustling market fades into nothingness and there is only him and his electric blue eyes, darkening by the second. I could see his hard expression quickly morph into that of love and desire, and I quickly start to melt into a pool of submission.
This is why we can't have a mate, I scold my wolf. She growls loudly in my head, not a bit upset by her need for her mate. I will not give up my life and my future for a love forced upon me. I create my own fate and I will not forcefully submit to some random wolf, I don't want to know. He can't catch me, I won't let that happen and I think he realizes that, too. Releasing me from his hold, he quickly gets his men's attention and points them in my direction.
"FUCK!" Looking into his anxious, captivating eyes one last time I spin in the opposite direction and turn down a nearby alleyway. Hearing the sound of him yelling at his men to catch me, I push my legs to take me faster, quickly making it to the other end of the alley. Thankfully this narrow street was an extension of the market and push my way into horde, getting lost in a crowd of locals debating the price of fruit.
Abruptly remembering the live stream, I bring my phone back in front of my face, "Sorry pup's, gotta run-" I tap the screen trying to figure out how to end it, "-literally... See you later!"
The brightly colored stalls fly past me as I weave my way through the crowds. Craning my head back to see if he was still following, I see that he is less than a block away.
He lifts his hands to his mouth and yells, "Natalia!" Desperation is written all over his face as he whips his head back and forth, searching. Shit, how did he find my account?
With my lungs burning, I force myself faster. I run up to a stall full of beautiful scarves and pick out one at random, and continue on my way after throwing enough money at the woman. Even though he couldn't see me he could still sniff me out. Quickly wrapping the scarf around me, hopefully masking my scent a little, I continue down the busy street. Nervously checking over my shoulder, I make it to a stall on the corner of another busy street and this one.
Taking the scarf from around my shoulders, I hastily rub the fabric on my neck and bare arms, effectively rubbing my scent into it. As a small woman walks past I slyly loop the scarf through the strap of her purse, she continues away from me, unknowing.
Trying to think quickly I duck under the cloth covered table in the stall. I clutch my chest, struggling to calm my racing heart and heavy breathing. I clearly need to work out more.
Getting onto my hands and knees, I silently crawl to the gap in the fabric at the edge of the table and look out.
He was a sight, there's no question. As he walked past, fists tightening and loosening, every few seconds, icy blue eyes flashing black in same rhythm as his hands, his back was tense. If I wasn't already hiding, I would want to, seeing a large angry wolf, seconds away from losing his shit. As shoppers cautiously move past him, they make sure to give him and his men wide berth.
I quickly pull out my phone, swipe up the screen and take a picture. At least I can now remember in detail what he looks like.
My stomach was flipping with nerves as my wolf pawed at my mind, begging and pushing me to go to him. I couldn't help but to fantasize myself walking up to him and calming him down. Instead, my nails dig into the earth below me as I keep control of my wolf's instincts to do just that.
I see the deep maroon scarf flow past him, attached to the purse. He pauses, sucks in a deep breath and takes off after it, out of my sight.
I really liked that scarf, damnit.
