Rin and Haru stepped out of the locker room together, Rin grinning, Haru lighting up at finally getting his chance to swim.
The two stepped up onto podiums beside one another, and they adjusted their goggles before taking their marks.
They prepped, waiting for the start.
BANG!
The two dove off at exactly the same time, hitting the water in unison before shooting off. At first, Rin began pulling ahead.
Yet, as usual, Haru would catch up and keep pace. There was no difference in the two.
They faltered slightly when they heard a splash behind them.
The two hit the turn and pushed off, Haru pulling slightly ahead, like Rin expected him to.
The two risked a glance behind them, and spotted a third figure already hitting the turn.
Haru spotted the brown hair without a swim cap. And he was quickly catching up.
He's fast...!
Rin and Haru sped up even more, struggling to keep ahead of the stranger. The wall grew closer, closer...
The three stuck their hands out, before touching the concrete. The two swimmers jerked their heads back, gasping for air.
Sousuke pulled out Rin, and Makoto hauled up Haru before they all looked at the times.
The fastest of the practice, yet, there were three exact same times, even down to the millisecond.
The third pushed himself up, not even out of breath.
"Even after starting late..." Haru realized. "You matched mine and Rin's times—"
Rin looked ready to blow a fuse. Sousuke had to hold him back from slugging the teen.
"What's the big idea?!" He snapped. "That was a personal race that you interrupted!"
"Sorry," the stranger chuckled, revealing sea green eyes, and a beaded necklace like the kind a little kid would make at summer camp.
"I saw the water and went for it," he shrugged.
"Who are you?" Haru asked him. "I haven't seen you before." Everyone else realized that they didn't recognize him either.
"Oh, yeah, I came here from Long Island, off the coast of New York in the United States," he explained. "I'm here to get away from... some stress I've been dealing with for the past few years."
"Your name?" Makoto prompted.
"Percy," he smirked. "My name is Percy Jackson."
"I've never seen anyone swim so fast," Rei muttered to himself. "I think even Olympians would have a hard time against you."
"You'd be surprised," Percy muttered, remembering his dad and half-brother.
"Which is why we should have him for Iwatobi!" Nagisa interrupted.
"Uh, why would he join you when he can join a better supported and winning team," Rin smirked.
"Listen, you guys..." Percy tried, but soon all the team started bickering back and forth, especially to the point where Rin and Haru butted heads, though Haru cared less.
"Hey!" Percy shouted, getting everyone's attention. "I can't stay and enroll here in Japan." Everyone saddened at this a bit.
"Besides, he added. "I can't stay here, it would be too dangerous for all our sakes. I have to go back to Long Island soon anyway."
Right as he said that a monstrous mechanical road thundered outside. "And there's my ride," he smirked, shrugging on his civilian clothes in his backpack as he fished out a gold pen. "But if you ever want a race again, give me a call!"
They watched him sprint out the doors, and disappear from view.
Haru saw it though, the two scraps of paper crumpled where his backpack had been. He walked over, and unraveled them.
They were phone numbers. Identical.
"Rin," Haru called, handing the fuming redhead the scrap of paper. "This must be Percy's number."
"Are you going to call him again?"
Haru thought about it for a moment. "Probably not," he answered. "I've got a rival already. Don't think I need more competition right now if I'm going to the Olympics with you one day."
They all looked at the ravenette in shock, before Rin draped his arm around him. "So you did finally decide on your future!" Rin laughed. "I can't wait to swim against you!"
"You just did," Haru muttered, averting his gaze. Echoes of laughter swept out of the convention hall.
Percy couldn't help but smile. He'd see them again. Especially the redhead. He was looking forward to racing his new friends again.
