luke was having a pretty decent time at the party his brother was having. it wasn't the same without michael, but he had successfully gotten everyone to believe that michael was very ill and couldn't make it. however, his brother, jack, wasn't so sure about that.
jack was the kind of brother that knew exactly what luke was thinking, and especially when luke was lying. and jack could easily tell luke was lying, he had always been bad at doing so. the blond got flustered and never could come up with good lies. jack knew that if michael was ill, luke would have stayed home to take care of him.
'hey luke, so how's michael doing?'
'oh, he's doing good'
'i thought he was sick' luke's eyes went wide and he stuttered a little bit, trying so hard to come up with something but he couldn't.
'alright spill, what's going on' luke started getting anxious, he couldn't tell anyone his secret, not even his brother. but right then, he felt that his only option was to tell his brother and he hated the feeling of anxiety, so he did.
-
'm-mikey!' luke ran into the house, seeing michael lying on the couch watching some random hallmark movie with ella, who was passing out in his lap. michael quickly moved her and stood up, noticing how upset luke was.
'what's happened. is someone hurt?'
'i told my brother. i got-got so nervous and my heart was racing and i thought i was going to cry but i couldn't keep it in anymore. mikey, he said he was going to call the police! i-i'm so sorry!' michael jumped up, nearly screaming as he paced the room. they were going to get arrested, ella was going to be brutally beat for the rest of her life and it was practically his fault. he should never have let luke kept her, he should have said no and called the police as soon and the baby showed up. he couldn't believe that luke would do that, how stupid does he have to be?
'hemmings! how- i don't know what to do!' luke sobbed, waking ella up. she saw both luke and michael pacing and crying, so he started crying and following around luke. the blonde tried getting her to relax, but he himself wasn't okay either.
-
a knock on the door paused everything. life seemed to go in slow motion right at that moment. police sirens and lights, screaming and crying and yelling. luke was hysterical, tears never leaving his face. he didn't want to let ella go, he really loved her.
'please let the girl out and no one will get hurt. we will have to force her out if you do not comply!' ella started crying, all the commotion scaring her. michael shushed her, standing and swaying with luke, who had ella in his embrace.
'luke, we-we might have to let her go' luke shook his head, his throat getting tight, making it hard to actually cry. he held tightly to the little girl, not wanting to let her go.
'you have thirty seconds before we break the door down!'
'lukey, hold her tightly and don't let go'
luke screamed, everything becoming too much for him. michael tried to keep the tears out of his eyes as he watched luke break in front of him. he could hear the police stomping toward their door, their heavy boots colliding loudly with the pavement. loud banging started on their door, each strike making the household jump and let out a cry.
their door fell to the ground and men ran in, stripping ella out of luke's hands and dragging her into a van. luke scrambled to his feet and tried so hard to get her back, but it was no use. she was gone so fast.
'uki! mi'ey!' luke sat on the floor, defeated, watching as his baby girl was taken away. he stopped feeling in that moment and it felt as though the world was spinning faster than he could comprehend.
-
it was all too much for the young boy, one minute the single greatest miracle in his life was there, hugging onto him like she really loved him and the next there were tons of men stripping her away from him. it hurt both boys, each feeling different things. luke felt broken, ella had shown him things he couldn't even express. for years he had been told that boys were the only gender that mattered and that girls were simply mistakes in coding, but when he saw ella that first day, he wasn't disgusted like everyone else would be, he thought she was adorable.
michael was confused. he started off thinking that ella was a mistake and that she needed to be reported but the longer luke protested and refused to let michael do so, the longer michael had around ella and he found that she was really sweet and not what the world deemed her to be. it wasn't fair that she had to be taken away.
the boys had to appear in court the week after ella was taken. luke was a nervous wreck, he was shaking the whole time and god he really wanted to just go home and cry. the judge kept asking him questions like 'and why didn't you call her knowing how dangerous she could be' or 'why did you lie to the police about knowing where she was'. they clearly didn't understand how much she meant to him and michael.
when michael had gotten up to speak with the judge, he only got himself into trouble for the way he was talking to the judge. he would sass him and get angry when he referenced either he or luke as 'irresponsible' and 'unfit'. michael got sentenced to two months in prison for swearing and making a move to the judge, nothing for holding a female for months.
luke visited michael every day, and michael could tell just how slowly luke was breaking. every time he went in, the bags under his eyes were darker and his voice was lower and softer. michael hated seeing luke like that, but there was nothing he could do.
luke practically lost everything, even if he only had to wait two months for michael to get out. he hated being so alone at night, having to hold the blankets around him to stay warm because michael wasn't there to hold him. luke broke so slowly that he barely noticed it.
one day, luke didn't visit michael. michael got scared and asked to send police to their house. luke had attempted to commit suicide, almost succeeding if the police had arrived only seconds later. when he woke in the hospital bed, he cried because he just wanted to die and stop the pain.
luke and michael never fully recovered, luke was on suicide watch for a long while and michael tried his best to be there for luke, but luke had lost any and all trust to anyone.
the government uses this story as an example of why females are no longer allowed amongst society. ella was an experiment set up by them, they wanted to see how far they would go to protect something they didn't know, and they went further than anticipated. females caused an uproar that the government knew would happen.
