-CHAPTER THIRTEEN: CONJUNCTURE (Louis's POV)-

"So this is how you declare war, Harry?"

Seeing the brunette walk away felt so wrong for Louis.

He didn't know why, it just felt off.

The feeling was like when he was making a wrong decision or telling a lie or letting a very big opportunity pass. It felt so wrong that his stomach lurched and he couldn't stand still. It was as if something bad was going to happen; as if she'd never return.

Louis shook his head vigorously and slapped himself—hard.

"What am I thinking?" he said to himself. "Shira's not that kind of girl!"

So he put down the luggage he was carrying and sat down beside them.

One. Two. Three minutes had passed.

No, she's probably still on her way back to the cliff.

Six. Seven. Eight. Nine minutes went by,

She could be having a hard time finding her phone.

Twenty. Twenty-one. Twenty-two.

Knowing Shira, she's still probably looking for it. She does, after all, have that kind of enthusiasm. Besides, if she needed help?

Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Thirty.

Isn't she taking a bit too long?

Louis stood up. Then, without thinking, he shook the dust off his pants, carried the luggage and began running back to the hotel.

The sound of his TOMs as they collided with the rocks underneath his feet echoed in the blue-eyed boy's ears.

Louis has never been a man of patience, he admits that much, but Shira was an exception. In fact, he'd be willing to wait forever for Shira. At least, that's what males in dramas and plays do for their women. And he had the feeling that's what he's supposed to do himself.

So why was he running back to the hotel?

He didn't know either.

However, his gut was telling him that something had happened to Shira within the half-hour that she hadn't returned yet.

And his gut is always correct.

So now, Louis was running back to the hotel, carrying their entire luggage with him. He didn't care if they were heavy—very heavy, in fact; he just wanted to be sure that the girl hadn't gotten lost or anything.

Could she have been mauled by bears? No, she's not that helpless. And if she did, which he hoped not, he would have heard her scream, right?

Louis ran even faster. As he ran, many more thoughts occurred to him. So many came that the dark night and slippery rocks didn't stop him from getting out of the thicket and back into the boundaries of the resort.

He looked to the right and to the left but there was no Shira in sight.

But then, he looked toward his right, where he saw a brown streak running toward a pile of rocks near the beach. The brown streak, he wagered, was Shira.

Louis gave a sigh of relief. So the girl wasn't raped, mauled by bears or accidentally caught in the chasm. She was just running around in the shoreline.

Why?

Louis raised an eyebrow.

Why would Shira be running alone in the shoreline?

So Louis left their luggage and followed the girl as she neared the pile of rocks.

"Shir—"

"Harry!"

Louis almost stumbled. Harry? She was running after Harry?

The flame mage hid beneath the huge pile of rocks and watched as Harry continued to walk and Shira was running far behind him.

"Harry, you idiot! Stop!" Shira's loud voice echoed and made the ice mage stop.

When the girl finally reached Harry, Louis went closer to hear their conversation.

"Are you saying you like me?" said the other male to Shira.

Louis stiffened in a state of confusion. What the heck is happening?

"I don't know. I didn't really think about that. I just felt like I didn't want to go home yet… At least, not without you." Shira looked away shyly. To Louis, it looked as if she was already answering him 'yes'. And this annoyed him.

"And Louis?"

Good going Harry. At least you still know who belongs to whom.

"I don't know either. I think by now he would've figured that I ditched."

Louis's heart felt as if it was about to explode. Was Shira just playing him all along? Were she and Harry in a relationship?

A lot of questions needed to be answered and Louis was really irritated by what he was hearing. He didn't even know if Shira still loved him or had she just been playing him as revenge?

Then again, Shira wasn't that kind of girl. She's a sweet, kind and very sensitive person. She's not the kind who would whip up revenge. She said she'd forgiven him already, for Pete's sake.

Whatever was happening then, he had to stay to find out.

Suddenly, Harry burst out laughing. This surprised Louis and Shira, much more the latter.

"Harry, you must have some screws loose!" Louis whispered and he himself was feeling all euphoric. Was it possible that laughter was contagious? Maybe, because he really felt like laughing then.

"That's what you say, but what do you really think?" Shira's voice became louder and Louis was brought back to the scene he was in.

"I love you." Harry said.

Louis was caught by surprise at the other male's statement. Is this a declaration of war? Louis smiled. He would never say no to a challenge. How much more, Shira, whom he treasures more than anything?

The boy watched as Shira took a small step backward.

"Why so suddenly?" she said sheepishly.

"I don't know. I just felt like saying it now."

Ha!. Louis mused. You just want to look cool, for all I know.

He smirked and watched Shira look panic-stricken and completely mentally unorganized.

"But… Louis..." said her voice in a decrescendo.

So she really wasn't planning revenge, after all. Her forgiveness was authentic and Louis smiled as he waited for Harry's reply to come.

"I know…" Harry said coolly. "In fact, why don't you come out here and tell me what you think, Louis?"

Louis smiled. "I knew you could see me from up here, Harry, you sorry bastard."

And he jumped down the rocks to a bewildered Shira and a smirking Harry.

So this is how you declare war, huh? Louis thought as his gaze met Harry's.

Well, bring it on, then.
