No Happy Ending

You ruined our family

Jessica walks into her office and her friend unexpectedly opens the door.

"Jessica, what the hell, they're waiting in court!"

"Wait, what time is that? Oh, shit, I'm late!"she grabs the paper and they run into the courtroom.
They go to court and Jessica sits on her chair.

"You're just in time, Mrs. Huston! Your witness!" a man looks at her with judgment and sits in his chair.

"Good morning, miss Charles. Tell us what  did you do on the night of the murder?"

"Objection!"

"Objection rejected! Continue"

"I was with my husband in a country house, we go there every weekend"

"You know what did Mr. Spence do near your house?"

"No, I don't know."

"Okay, so" Jessica takes the papers from the desk and gives a copy to the judge and another copy to the witness.

"These documents say that on the night of Saturday and Sunday you were at home and the camera, your neighbors, was recorded as at 8:45 am Mr. Spence comes to your house and as we know he does not get out of there"

"Objection!"

"The reason for the objection?" the judge lowered his glasses

"As we know the neighbors don't have cameras!"

"Mrs. Huston?!"

"Let's look at the house's layout. All the houses on your street look similar. So, the camera hangs under the roof of the porch, so that thieves can not see the camera and hence the police can quickly catch them."
The witness lowers her eyes and takes a deep breath.

"I had an affair with Zachary, but I knew that I could not be with him. That night he came to me and I killed him, because I do not want him to be with someone else"

"Wow, Jess, great job!" Miranda claps her on the back.

"Thank you" she smiles a little.

"Why are you late? Jessica was late! This nonsons!"

"I will say only one word. Danny" she throws the papers on the Desk and sits on the chair.

"Divorce him"

"No I can't..."

"Why ... oh, you love him!"
Jessica lowers her eyes and plays with her fingers, then shakes her head.

"Yes ... despite what he did and what he continues to do, I love him. I know that he is a good husband ..."

"Jess, I can't watch you hurt."

"Okay, we won't talk about it!"
she opens her laptop.

"Jessica!" Sam comes into the office, slamming the door. Miranda slowly gets up and leaves.

"Sam, I'm sorry, I didn't want to be late, but we won the case!" Jessica rises from the chair.

"Jessica, you're late for half an hour! It is unacceptable for the court, you know that? If it happens again, I will fire you!" he yells at her and then leaves.
Jessica sits on a chair, starting to cry.

Jessica came back home around eight.
She goes to the kitchen and Danny is preparing dinner, Alicia David and Vivian are playing.

"Is the dream now?"

"No, sit at the table and we're having dinner."

Jessica was shocked by what is happening. So Alicia sat at the same table with her father and talking with him is a rarity
After dinner  only Jess and Danny was in the kitchen.

Jessica washes dishes, and Danny hugs her and lays his head on her shoulder.

"Danny, don't."

"I'm sorry" he kisses her neck. Jessica pinches the shoulder pushing him and she comes out of the kitchen.

"Jessica, why can't you just listen to me!"

"Because I don't want!..... I don't want to listen to you! You ruined everything, you ruined our family and I can't live like that!" she climbs the stairs.

"Wait!"

"Danny, we live in a world of eternal apology, betrayal, starting over..I'm tired of all this shit that you bring into the house!" Jessica yells at him and walks into the room. She pulls out of the closet  suitcase, puts it on the bed as packing Danny's things.

"What are you doing?" he takes one thing and puts it back in the closet. Jessica without saying a word, puts things back.

"Now leave!" she hands him the suitcase, trying not to cry.

"Jessica!"

"Get ..*pause* ugh!" she throws the suitcase, hurrying to leave the room.

Vivien walks into the room as her room was next door she could hear them arguing.

"Daddy?"

"Oh, honey, I thought you were watching cartoons!" he turns to her looking at her with red eyes.

"Why are you crying?" she comes to him and Danny hugging her.

"I'm sorry I ruined everything, Viv! It's all my fault!" tears rolling down his cheeks. Vivian puts her hands on his cheeks wiping his tears.

"If you've destroyed something, you can always do it again, except for the castle on the sand, it's very difficult" she smiles sweetly Danny chuckles.

"Just don't go! Mommy didn't want to say it, she's just very upset.."

"No, she's right. I did a lot of bad things and I have to answer for them."

"Vivian, why are you awake? It's late!" Jessica comes into the room.

"I don't want daddy to leave!" she starts to cry, hugging Danny.

"Hey, I can come to you!"

"But I want you to stay" she buried in his neck.

"I can't..."

Jessica stares at them leaning on the wall and the tears running down her cheeks.

"Vivian, you should go to sleep!" Jessica whispers, wiping tears.

"No" she yells

"you shouldn't shout at mommy!" Danny took her hand.

"It's late and you should sleep and I'll come to you tomorrow. It will be our secret!" he whispers in her ear.

"Okay" she kisses him on the cheek and runs off to her room.

Danny smiled coming to Jessica.

"I love you, Jess!"

"Just leave"

He tries to kiss her but she backs away and he sighed deeply and leaves.
Jessica slams the door and lays down under the blanket crying loudly.
