There were many doors in Hogwarts that led to strange rooms. There was one room that hid a three headed dog. There was one room that was hidden behind walls. There was a room with a magical mirror inside it. All these doors and Hermione ended up walking through the one leading to Narnia.
"These doors of Hogwarts need to be labeled." She said to herself as she stared in awe at all the snow around her. She seemed to be in a woodsy area that was all covered in snow.
It was the end of the first year at Hogwarts and everyone was getting ready to go home. When climbing the stairs leading to the Gryffindor rooms, the stairs decided to change direction and bring her to a different door that she had not noticed before. "I am so going to miss my train home." She said as she stood there, curious to see what a forest filled with snow was doing inside Hogwarts.
Staring back at the big door behind her, Hermione thought about going back to tell Harry and Ron about this place when she heard a low noise. As she listened closer, she made the noise out to be snoring. Turning to find where the snoring was coming from, she noticed the endless field of snow beyond the trees.
She took a step forward, entranced by the vast snow-field, then felt her shoe drown in the pile of snow. Picking her foot up, she concluded that she was not at all prepared for snow like this. When she grabbed a nearby tree to help her walk forward, there was a sudden gust of wind that knocked her off balance. With a small yelp, Hermione fell on her side and into the snow. Huffing in annoyance, she felt that the trees had sent the wind her way for the sole purpose of making her fall. Little did she know, that that was exactly the trees' intention.A small yell and a thud from above woke up Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and the rest of the kids. Mr. Beaver ran up and out of the small cave that they were sleeping in to see what the noise was. He frowned in confusion when he saw a girl like Lucy and Susan in the snow.
"Are you another Daughter of Eve? The prophecy never spoke of another."
The girl jumped at the sight of a beaver talking to her. "Are you talking to me?"
"There is no one else here." Mr. Beaver acknowledged.
After looking to her left and right, the girl coughed to digress from her obvious mistake. "I suppose there isn't. I wasn't exactly expecting to come across a talking beaver, so excuse my confusion."
"Well?" Mr. Beaver questioned, waiting for an answer to his previous question. "Are you?"
"Mr. Beaver? Who are you talking to?" Peter questioned as he, Mrs. Beaver, Susan and Lucy came out from the cave.
Lucy gasped. "It's another girl!" She tugged on Susan's sleeve in excitement. "Susan, can I go to her?"
Susan looked at the girl before nodding her head and letting go of Lucy's hand. Lucy walked tentatively to the new girl, giving her a small smile.
"Hi, I'm Lucy Pevensie." Lucy introduced herself and stretched out her hand to help the girl up. "Thanks," The girl grabbed onto Lucy's outstretched hand and stood up. "Nice to meet you, I'm Hermione Granger." She introduced herself, brushing off snow from her fall and shuddered from the cold. "Um, can you tell me where we are?" Hermione asked, trying to satisfy her curiosity.
"This is Narnia." Peter called out from behind Lucy.
"Narnia?" Hermione wondered. "I've never read of such a place. I've read about a lot of places all around the world, but never once have I read about Narnia." Hermione said.
"That's because Narnia isn't in books, it's another world." Susan answered.
"If you're not from here, how did you get here?" Lucy asked Hermione.
"There must be more portals connecting to different worlds than we thought." Mr. Beaver noted.
"So I found a portal? I was only walking around my school and one of the doors led me here." Hermione said.
"Your school has a door leading to another world?" Peter asked incredulously.
"Apparently, it does." Hermione replied, just as surprised. The concept of a different world didn't faze her, since she herself was aware of two different worlds already. What amazed her was that the door leading to Narnia had been sitting so free, without any protection. "There must not be anything to fear here, that's why there was no protection in front of the door." Hermione watched as everyone in front of her gave each other wary glances as she said that. "There's nothing to fear, is there?"
Just as Mr. Beaver took a step forward to speak, there was a jingling noise from above.
"There's that jingling again." Mrs. Beaver said, ushering the kids to move back into the bushes. They had heard this jingling the night before as well, which is why they hid under the cave to sleep for the night.
A few moments later, a red sleigh led by reindeer came into view. Everyone's smiles grew and they all stepped into the light, towards the jolly, red man.
"Father Christmas!" Mrs. Beaver exclaimed.
"Well, I suppose you're known in all the worlds." Hermione acknowledged with a smile.
"You suppose right, Miss Granger." Father Christmas replied with a smile of his own.
"You're back! But how?" Mrs. Beaver questioned.
The jolly old man gave a hearty laugh before answering. "Hello to you all, too! It seems Aslan's return is already weakening the Witch's curse. I was able to come back easily this time."
Aslan? A Witch? Curse? Hermione's mind whirled with curiosity as Father Christmas and the Beavers continued to speak.
"Oh, Aslan! Now that he's back and the Daughters of Eve and Sons of Adam are here, the prophecy will be fulfilled. Then you won't have to worry about any troubles when coming here."
Not being able to stifle her curiosity much longer, Hermione walked around to in- tervene in their conversation. "Excuse me, but what Witch are you talking about? And what curse? Who's Aslan and what prophecy?" Father Christmas laughed at Hermione's demanding curiosity. "One question at a time, Hermione. The Witch is—"
"Wait! We shouldn't tell her everything." Peter spoke up, cutting off Father Christmas' explanation. Everyone turned to look at Peter and he continued. "We don't know her very well, we don't know if she is apart of the Witch's plan."
Hermione defended herself, feeling a bit offended. "I can vouch for myself. I'm not part of a plan. I told you, I came from my school." Even without knowing who the Witch was, Hermione was adamant on clearing her own name.
"She could—"
"You don't have to refer to me in third person, I'm right here."
Peter stared pointedly at Hermione before continuing. "You could be under the Witch's spell, like Edmund was."
"Well, I'm not sure who Edmund is, but I can say that if the Witch would try any magic on me, I would likely counter it."
Peter raised an eyebrow. "Counter it? With what?"
"Hermione Granger here, goes to a school of wizardry and witchcraft; she's a
witch, but not like the White Witch."
Hermione looked proudly towards Peter, but he still looked uncertain. Remembering a spell she had used recently, she took her wand out and recited a few words, and with a wave and a flick, a small fire started on Peter's fur cloak.
Looking behind him, Peter let out a yelp as he threw off his cloak and thrust it into the snow to rid of the fire.
Everyone was trying to control their laughter, but Lucy couldn't hold it in. Hermione looked to her and they shared a giggle.
After the little cloak incident, Peter didn't intrude while Susan explained their situation to Hermione. Hermione listened attentively, gathering as much of this new and fascinating information as she could. She didn't hesitate to share her excitement on hearing their prophecy, letting them know that she read of their prophecy in a book of legends she once found at a library.
After the explanations had come to an end, Father Christmas gathered everyone around for the real reason he had come. He told Mr. and Mrs. Beaver about the presents he left for them at their home.
He gave Peter a big shield, with an even bigger sword. "The time to use them is perhaps near at hand. Bear them well." For Susan, there was a bow with arrows; "You must use the bow only in great need, for I do not mean you to fight in the battle." He then handed her a horn; "And when you put this horn to your lips and blow it, then, wherever you are, I think help of some kind will come to you."
Hermione's eyebrows furrowed as she heard what Father Christmas was saying to Susan.
He gave Lucy a bottle with some liquid in it and a small dagger; "If you or any of your friends is hurt, a few drops of this will restore them. And the dagger is to defend yourself at great need. For you also are not to be in the battle."
"Why not?" Hermione asked, unable to keep her confusion to herself.
Lucy nodded with Hermione. "Why, sir? I think I could be brave enough." "That is because battles are ugly when women fight." He replied. Hermione felt offended. She looked around to see everyone else's reaction to what Father Christmas had just said but they did not seem offended at the least. Hermione chuckled a nervous chuckle before speaking up. "All due respect Father Christmas, but how can you be so sure a woman's battle is ugly if you never let her fight?"
"These girls do not know how to fight in a battle. Peter is older and stronger and can handle himself better. And all due respect Miss Granger, but was it not you who hid and asked for help from Harry Potter and Ron Weasley against the troll attack in the toilet?"
"Erm, y-yes but," Hermione stuttered as she knew Father Christmas had a point, but she still didn't give up, "well, we can all practice then of course. After all, you are going to be fighting against a woman as well. The Witch is a woman, is she not?"
"How can you learn to be in a battle so quick?" Father Christmas countered.
"Did Peter know how to fight in a battle when he came here? If he can learn, so can the girls." She answered.
Father Christmas gave a small, knowing smile. "I cannot stop what you say, nor the girls' opinion. But they should heed my advice and stick to using what I've given them for the purpose of why I've given it to them. It is for the best." Then, he got in his sleigh and shook his reigns. "Merry Christmas! Long live the true King!" He cried out and flew away.
For a moment, it was quiet as the recent conversation engraved itself into the minds of everyone present.
"That took an unexpected turn." Peter said and gathered his presents from Father Christmas.
"Well, that was unfair." Hermione said, with a faint defeated look on her face.
"It's alright, Hermione. You don't need to feel sad." Lucy said, grabbing onto Hermione's hand to comfort her.
"You're very brave, Lucy." Hermione said, smiling at the little girl.
Lucy blushed in return. "I am?"
"Yes, from what I've heard so far, you're one of the bravest girls I've met. I think it was really brave of you to befriend Mr. Tumnus and persuade your siblings to help find him."
"I suppose that was being brave. I like being brave." Lucy replied and this made Hermione start to think.
"Susan, Lucy, do you want to fight for yourself?" Hermione asked the girls. Peter and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver looked towards the two girls in question, each hoping for a different answer.
"Sure, but I've never done so before." Susan replied.
"Me neither." Lucy agreed.
"We do have Peter to protect us, so it doesn't matter too much." Susan continued.
"Well, I'm just being rational. What if one time, Peter isn't there or doesn't make it in time to help you?" Hermione countered.
"That's what my sisters have their weapons for, remember?" Peter added in.
"Do you know how to use them?" Hermione asked Susan and Lucy and they both looked at each other and shook their heads. "Well then, what good are they?"
"It's dangerous, what if they hurt themselves in the process?" Peter asked, getting worried.
"But Peter, what if you can't come that one time, we'll get even more hurt then." Lucy said and walked towards her older brother. "I know you're just being a nice older brother, but I think it's a good idea if we learn to fight."
"We can become an advantage for you. You'll have more fighters rather than having someone in the back of your mind to worry about." Susan added.
Peter thought about what their sisters were saying. He wanted to object to Hermione for putting this in his sisters' brains, but he knew that she had a valid point. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, something fell from the sky, followed by a familiar jingling sound.
A present wrapped in red dropped directly in front of Hermione. She eyed it, and read the tag out loud. "To Hermione Granger. From Father Christmas."
Lucy shared an excited smile, eager to see what was in it.
"Oh, I thought he had forgotten to give you a present." Mrs. Beaver said, sheepishly.
"Christmas already passed in my world." Hermione assured, but that made her a little confused. However, she unwrapped the present and smiled a big smile when she saw what it was.
Hermione pulled out a book from the box and turned it to show everyone what it said.
It read, 'Fantastic Swords and How to Wield Them'.
Lucy and Susan looked at each other and smiled big smiles and the Beavers join in as well.
Peter looked up to where Father Christmas just flew by and rolled his eyes with a faint smile on his face as well.
"Wait," Lucy said, "we don't have any swords. How are we going to learn to use a sword without having one?"
"Peter?" Susan asked, looking towards him. "Maybe we can use yours?"
"Uh-uh. No." He said, putting his hands over his sword. One, he valued it too much and two, it was too big and sharp for him to easily hand it over to his sisters.
Hermione smiled a proud smile and flicked her wand again, this time turning Lucy's dagger and one of Susan's arrows into swords.
"Of course." Peter said, realizing that there was no point in protecting his sword anymore.
"By the way Peter, you've got dirt on your nose, did you know?" Hermione teased.
Peter blushed and began rubbing his nose to rid of the dirt.
"Okay, Daughters of Eve and Son of Adam, we need to get to Aslan as soon as possible. You girls can start training when we get there." Mr. Beaver instructed and everyone nodded in agreement.
They all prepared to continue their journey, now with a new member.
"So Aslan is a lion?" Hermione asked, as they walked.
"The biggest, the most fiercest, yet the most kindest lion ever known." Mrs. Beaver answered.
"I've read about lions being the kings of the jungle or the desert, or wherever they reside. They have great courage and care for their tribes."
"Of course you have." Peter said. "Is there anything you haven't read about?"
"Books are a great source of information. They can increase your knowledge ten- fold. Or even more." Hermione reasoned.
"Susan, I want to start a book collection after this." Lucy said after some thought. "Hermione seems to know about a lot and I want to learn so much, too."
Hermione excitedly ran towards Lucy and Lucy grabbed onto Hermione's hand. "That's a brilliant idea. We can keep in touch and share books!"
"Oh, how brilliant!"THE END
