We kept driving at rollercoaster-like speeds with red and blue light flashing behind us until the man suddenly stopped short and yanked us out of the car. The state trooper pulled up beside the car. I saw now why we had stopped. A police barricade blocked the road only a few feet ahead. He was caught and we were saved! (Boy that happy ending I wanted sure took it's sweet time.) At least that was what I thought until I felt a cold cirlce of the barrel of a gun against the side of my head. Wait if he had a gun then why didn't he shoot the state trooper? Don't get me wrong I'm glad he left the cop alive but really that just seems like bad planning. Or maybe I just come up with evil thoughts whenever I'm about to get my brains blown out. Could be either. Anyways I have a gun pointed at my head so naturally I said the most rational thing I could.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Benny tried to pull me away but the man grabbed my arm roughly.

"If you don't want to find the girls body in a ditch tomorrow morning you won't follow us."

He dragged me and Benny into the woods, gun still trained between my eyes.

After miles of walking we came to a small dirt road where a small, beat up white car was waiting. maybe he had planned to ditch the other car anyways.

"Get in the trunk."

"Umm excuse me there is no way that me and Benny are both fitting in there. We need to be in the back seat."

"Works for me but if your in the backseat then child-locks are on and you are both tied down."

And he meant it to. We were, I kid you not, hog tied (freaking hogtied) and stuffed in the backseat.

We kept driving through the night. I has not idea where we were now. Canada maybe? I guess he didn't have a cabin way out here because we ended locked up in a tiny hunters shack. I wasn't sure where the man went after the padlock clicked shut, but he wasnt here. Maybe he was in the car or something.

Later that night I was fishing through my hair, searching for something while Benny watched me curiously.

"Okay I'll bite. What could you possibly find to help us get away in your rats nest?"

I kept digging.

"Just trust me for a second? And its called hair genius. Got it!"

I pulled a bobby pin triumphantly out of my hair and began to tear away at the camouflage fabric covering the window with the sharp end.

"Ooooooh. Good idea."

"Yes I know Benny I'm brilliant. Now if you happen to have any sharp objects I would love some help here!"

"Sure just let me pull one out of my hair. Oh wait I forgot I'm a guy. Do you have another pin?"

"Maybe, if not I can probably break this one in half." *snap*

"Here. just tear at the threads and try to widen the hole I made."

It took us a while, not sure how long but we eventually made a hole big enough to climb out of. We saw the man lying in the backseat of the car, asleep. Neither of us knew where we were so we just picked a direction and started walking stealthily. Once we were out of hearing range we ran. And I mean ran. I for one made up my mind to join the cross country team next year because I was fast. Could be that I was running for my life from a man who had already almost shot me in the head. Maybe a little bit of adrenaline? Nah that was just God given talent. That had waited until now to surface. We stopped for a little while after running and walking for about 2 hours.

"So do we know what were going to do once we find someone?" Benny asked once we had caught our breath and were walking again.

"I dont know maybe tell someone we were kidnapped? Find the police?"

"How long do you think it's going to take to find someone? My legs already hurt."

"You know what maybe we should just head back to the little shack back there and wait for him to kill us. That would be easier for you wouldn't it princess?" I snapped.

I couldnt help it. I was annoyed, and my legs hurt to. I sighed.

"Maybe we should find a place to stop for the night."

"We need to make sure its hidden. Maybe in a tree."

"Lead the way boyscout." I had watched Benny suffer through 5 years of boyscout camping trips and bad popcorn. He knew what he was doing.

"Hows your climbing skills? This one looks good. Just try to stay in the top branches where there are the most leaves."

"Do we need to tie ourselves to branches so we dont fall in the middle of the night? Like in the hunger games?"

"Thats a good idea. Do you have a belt?"

After we settled in I lay awake for a while. Not because I was thinking about how lucky we were to have escaped, or the meaning of life or things that usually keep people up at night. I was alone. In the forest. In early spring. In a thin sweatshirt. It was freaking freezing.
