Brianna’s POV:
“Call me so we can talk,” those were the only words going through my mind. Did he wanna talk about me and Seev in the closet? What if he wants to talk about the kiss? I thought we both enjoyed it, at least I thought we did. Oh god, what if I made him uncomfortable and now he didn’t wanna talk to me anymore. Ugh, I can’t think about this anymore. “Bri!” Jill yelled. “You missed our turn.” “Oh, sorry I wasn’t paying attention.” I said sympathetically. I guess the girls caught on because I was ambushed with, “Are you ok?” “What’s wrong?” “How can I help?” and “Did something happen back there?” I didn’t wanna talk so I just drove home, ran into the house and went to bed. My phone started to ring and when I looked at it, of course, it was Nathan. I didn’t wanna make it seem as though I was avoiding him, so I just let it ring.
I know that it's rude to ignore people but I had a good reason to. I wasn't sure of my feelings for Nathan and now that we kissed, I know that there's something there. However, I feel as though the kiss may have complicated things even more. Like what if I like him but he doesn't feel the same way? Or what if we both like each other but neither one of us wants to say anything? This whole situation is complicated and I've only known him for a couple days.
Once the ringing stopped, I began to relax until I realized that he left a voicemail. I decided to pretend that I was sleep, so that I wouldn’t have to deal with all the questions and looks. “Hey Nathan, what’s up?” I heard Jill ask from outside my door. “Yeah, we just got home but she ran straight upstairs.” I had a feeling that he was worried because I didn’t answer his call. Then my door opened and Jill peered in and then said, “Oh, Nath she’s sleep.” There was a silence before Jill said, “Yeah. I’ll make sure she calls you when she wakes up, ok?” and then with that she closed my door and left me to sleep. I was happy that I pretended to sleep because I really wasn’t in the mood to deal with that. Anyway, I started to drift off about half an hour after Jill left, but I couldn’t seem to stop thinking about what Nathan wanted to talk about.
8:00am the Next Morning
I was woken up to my phone ringing. “BRI! ANSWER THE DAMN PHONE! HE’S BEEN CALLING ALL MORNING!” Chelsea yelled. I looked at my called I.D. and it was Nathan, again. Once my phone stopped ringing, I unlocked my phone and saw that he called twenty-four times, left eight voicemails, and texted twenty times. What the hell was so important? I didn’t know and I didn’t care to find out, so I turned my phone off and got in the shower. I took a pretty short shower because I just wanted to get outta the house; so I chucked on black sweatpants, a white tee, and purple converse.
So that I wouldn’t have to explain, I ran outta the house, jumped in my car, and drove to the café. That was the only place I could think of where I could think without any other distractions. Plus, the smell of coffee always brightens my mood.
Once I got there, I ordered a caramel iced coffee and a chocolate chip muffin and then sat down in a booth. “Hey.” Someone called. I turned around to see Marcus, the barista. “Hey…Marcus right?” He nodded and then continued, “I didn’t expect to see you after the other day when you ran out.” “Sorry about that, I just got a new job and I couldn’t be late.” I said sympathetically. “It’s ok. At least that wasn’t the last time I saw you.” He smiled and I blushed. “So, why are you here so early?” He asked. “Uh, I just needed to get outta my house so that I could clear my head. What about you?” I asked. “Oh, my shift starts soon.” I mentally face palmed myself for that stupid question. “Oh, I feel a little stupid for asking that.” “Don’t be, I sometimes forget that I work here too.” We both laughed and continued talking until he had to start his shift. “Hey, um…here’s my number in case you ever just wanna talk.” Marcus said nervously. “Thanks, here’s mine. See you around Marcus.” I said and then made my way home.
Back At the House
I had a feeling that something was gonna happen this morning so I began to prepare myself for the worst. I opened the front door to see Tianna, Jill, Chelsea, Becca, and Chloe standing there glaring at me. Did I do something wrong or were they just being dramatic? “So,” Becca said with hesitation. “Where were you off to this morning?” “I just headed to get some coffee and some breakfast. What’d you guys do?” I asked sarcastically. “Oh, you know just the usual. Making breakfast, cleaning, and ignoring nonstop phone calls from Nathan.” She said with more sarcasm.
I didn’t know what the big deal was. Anyway, I didn’t feel like dealing with this anymore, so I closed the door and went to watch TV. Unfortunately, they followed me and surrounded me. Once I sat down, the interrogation began. “Why aren’t you calling him back?” “What does he want?” “Why is he calling so early?” “Are you gonna call him back?” The questions kept coming until the phone rang. It got so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and we all just looked at the phone. None of us answered it but that didn’t help because then someone knocked on the front door. I took off for the stairs but was stopped by Chloe’s death grip. “If it’s Nathan, I’m not here. Ok?” they all started at me with confused expressions. “If you tell him I’m not here, I’ll explain later.” And with that I continued up the stairs and went into Becca’s room.
Once I closed Becca’s door, I heard the front door open. I leaned my ear against the door, but all I could hear was some talking and then the front door closed. I prayed that they covered for me and didn’t let him come in. I began to pant as I heard footsteps get closer to the door, but luckily only the girls came in. Once Chloe closed the door, all the girls sat near me and I began to explain why I was avoiding Nathan. Some of the girls looked confused while the others understood what I said. But after they all realized what I just told them, Chloe said, “Nathan wanted us to tell you that he’s leaving for Gloucester and when you get this message to call him.” I wasn’t sure what to say so I just sat there and stared at the walls. After taking in what Chloe just told me, I just went back downstairs, sat in front of the TV, and acted as though Chloe didn’t tell me that. I wasn’t sure what was gonna happen between me and Nathan but I was too scared to find out.
