My Sweet Baby Girl

She was just three days old when it started. Kassandra wouldn't  stop crying and her mother, Jennifer, just couldn't  take it anymore. Her father, Peter, was at work so he couldn't  stop her. Jennifer never hit the baby when Peter was around. Of course, when a three day old baby gets hit, that just makes them scream even louder. "Shut the fuck up you stupid little bitch!"
Then the abuser leaves the house so they don't  kill them, leaving them there until a few minutes  before daddy gets home. But maybe it would have been better if Jennifer did kill her at three days old because in the nineteen years Kassandra has been alive, all she's  lived with is abuse. Hatred. Intolerance. Jennifer gets back three minutes  before Peter gets home from work. Then she puts pants and a long sleeve shirt on her daughter so that he has no idea the kind of bruising she has endured. Kassandra is screaming and starving when Peter walks into the door. "I'm  home, love! Woah, someone sounds like she's  in a cranky mood today." Peter announces.
"Yeah, she just woke up from a nap and she's hungry. Aren't you  my darling?" Replies Jennifer as she makes a bottle for the baby.
"Can I feed her? I wanna see my sweet baby girl." Asks Peter
"Sweet my ass." Jennifer says under her breath
"What?" Peter asks with a raised eyebrow, not hearing what she had just said.
"I said 'Sure you can'."
Peter holds his daughter feeding her the bottle and looking into her ocean blue eyes, stroking her unique brown hair with white streaks. She immediately stops crying. He sings I'll Stand By You by The Pretenders  as she finishes the bottle and falls asleep. All he can think is "I will never let anyone hurt you."
