Inspired by the movie Bridegroom.

I wrote this story in just a few hours, so it can be rather short and fast-paced. I just... had to write it, and I thought it's best that I make it short.

“Hey, how bad could it be, really?”

I clapped Hendrick on the shoulder, smiled brightly. The boy growled back. “Of course it’s going to be bad. You will see.”

“What? You’re going to hate me now?” I giggled.

“No. Others. Everyone.”

“Nah. True friends stay. I can handle fine without the rest.” I answered cheekily. I have faith in my decision. “Say, Emily is coming. I bet she don’t mind at all. Watch.” I left him to greet the blonde who’s approaching us. She smiled and gave me a hug.

“Hi honey. You look good today. And God knows how proud I am of your decision.”

“Thanks, Emy. You look great too.” I stepped back to look. She was… short. But no one minded, since she had everything else: beautiful eyes, cute face, stunning hair and her choice of clothing was top-notch. Today was no exception. “Super nice shirt you got there. And shoes.”

“Enough with the compliments yet?” Hendrick walked to us, his expression that of disgust. I and Emily pouted. He didn’t frown: “See everyone watching?”

“Why should I care?”

“You look so gay.”

“I am. And I’d been doing this even before yesterday.” I gave him a smirk, making him roll his eyes.

Okay, so here’s the story. I’m Ethan, I played soccer, I was in the music club, I looked great (I'm trying to be frank, don't judge, please. Please.) and I was popular. But I, surprisingly, was not a jerk. My family’s religious and I knew right from wrong.

And yesterday I came out of the closet. A Facebook post, no more. My parents still didn’t know and they would not in a while- I was living with my uncle, far away from them.

Enough information yet? Let’s go back.

After that short conversation with my friends, we all began to walk down the hallway. The thing is, just before I turned around, I caught glimpse of a boy.

I know what you’re thinking.

Now now. Let me describe. He was small and thin. He had wavy brown hair and matching eyes color. He wore glasses. He looked timid, but smart. And freakishly cute!

He must be a freshman, I thought, since I’d never seen him before. Oh, freshman. I frowned at the thought of him getting bullied.

When I was thinking all sort of things about him, he looked up and our gaze met. We both looked away.

Really? I’m being shy now?

I left my friends to go greet the boy. He looked all nervous when I approached, but I had my confidence back. I put out my hand:

“Hi. I’m Ethan. We haven’t met, but I would like to know you.”

He blinked in surprise, but shook my hand anyway: “I’m Chris. Nice to meet you.”

I couldn’t help smiling wider. He was cute, in all ways possible. “Are you a freshman?”

“No, I’m a junior. I’m a transfer student.”

I was totally shocked. He looked way younger than he was! “You’re of the same age as me!” I exclaimed.

At this point, my friends decided to intefere by yelling my name. I yelled at them to go ahead, and asked Chris one last question: “Do you get, uh, bullied?”

He was hesitant: “A.. bit.”

“Oh. Hey, take my number. Contact me should you need help, okay? I’m willing to help people who’s bullied.”

He nodded, pulling out his phone. I had him call me so his number showed in my call logs. Now we both got what we want.

“Hey, I’m leaving. Do call me, okay?”

“Okay.”

And so we parted.
