CHAPTER 2:
I push through the various pieces of debris that block my path to the back entrance.
“Ah you’re here”(Boss)
“Yes boss”(Jay)
Where else would I be? The only reason I can eat is from these jobs… I can’t afford to ditch.
“You can start over there”(Boss)
He points towards a pile of dishes and glasses that must be recent.
I grunt and begin the meaningless task of scrubbing dishes.
Occasionally I see a person I know, then again I don’t really have friends. The people that do talk to me always seem forced in a way. I just act like I didn’t see them and go back to scrubbing.
“Welp our shifts are done ready to go?”(Carly)
Carly had a bright smile on, I suppose it’s to be expected her job is mainly greeting because she has a pretty face and a nice voice. I suppose there's no point in dwelling over who does what, so long as I get my pay.
“I guess, let’s go”(Jay)
If I didn’t have to I wouldn’t deal with this, but the lack of help from my family means I must… to survive.
I push my way through the back as usual and Carly follows me. I don’t know why she insists on following me just because we go to the same jobs. It can’t be mere convenience.
“Why do you always seem so grumpy?”(Carly
She is way to close, she must not have been raised to understand boundaries.
Stepping back I reply. “Because I am.” (Jay)
She doesn’t seem satisfied… Why should I care? It’s not as if she could understand.
“How come you never seem to even try being ha-”
I don’t know why but my body suddenly sped forwards and I pressed her against the wall.
A car sped down the side of the road and the driver must have lost control resulting in it crashing back where we would have been.
“What….” (Carly)
Her eyes showed no emotion, her face was pale. She had seen death and somehow I pulled her back.
My own heart’s banging against my ribs. I feel the adrenaline pumping through my body. My mind is racing with the events that lead up to the moment. Was I blessed with a power? Is this payment for the torture I have endured everyday?
I feel it again.
My body shoots off again and I see a girl standing in the road. I saw her hair glistening brown in the sunlight and her curious looking gaze towards me.
Color.
What is this strange sensation… Why does she seem to glow so vividly…
Has the sky always been that blue…
Why do I feel warm...
This…. Is…. Nice…
After that in a matter of seconds, I felt her body as I shoved her to the side, I saw lights, then nothing.
This is fitting.
I thought I was blessed but in actuality I was cursed. Whatever cruel being that put this on me is undoubtedly the reason for my life. God? No I have never heard of such a God that would submit such a person to a terrible fate. It must be the work of a demon.
“J...a….y…..”(???)
This voice… It sounds familiar…
Where is it from…
I see a light. It is warm and inviting.
I walk towards it, it’s the girl.
She is smiling it is almost as if we have known eachother forever.
“Jay…”(???)
I reach my hand out
“Who are you?”(Jay)
The words left my mouth and as soon as I did I felt the warmth increase…
“I…. Am…. Cera”(Cera)
Her face is no longer blurry and I can see her clearly, it is the girl I saw before. Up close her beauty is even more magnificent.
