She wasn't just some girl, she was different. She was Everest May Ryker. She was everything and nothing, sweet and sour, life and death, happiness and sadness. She was the honest truth and the little white lies you tell yourself. She was the feeling you get on Christmas Eve, and I loved her. I loved everything about her. And that's the truth.

"Kai, wake up!" shrilled my aunt from outside my door. It was 7:15 in the morning, my alarm went off the first time at 6:30, the second and 6:45, and the third at 7:00.
"Alright I'm up!" I shouted back. I pushed my covers back and got out of bed.
"You're going to be late!" she continued to holler. I hastily threw on a pair of jeans and a plain light blue t-shirt. I threw open my bedroom door and thundered down the steps.
My aunt Jenna was standing by the front door, arms crossed and eyes ablaze with furry.
"You look horrible." she said looking me up and down. In her thirty-five years of age my aunt had been given the task of watching over an eighteen year old boy.
"Why thank you," I replied brightly. Aunt Jenna rolled her eyes at me and let out a defeated sigh.
"You'd think my nephew would want to look a little bit decent for school."
"It's just school Jenna," I replied cooly.
"Yes, but you look like..." she paused a moment to think, "you look like a gremlin."
"Those adorable cuddly creatures?" I asked.
"No! After they've turned evil." Aunt Jenna said.
"Whatever you say," I said opening up the front door. I got into my car and started the engine.
"At least fix your hair!" I heard her say as I started pulling out of the driveway.

I stopped at a red light and got a good look at myself in the mirror. As much as I hated to admit it, Jenna was right. My black short cropped hair was messy, my shirt had a stain on it from goodness knows what and my jeans had ripped in the left knee. I looked in the passenger seat and found my navy blue and gold letterman jacket. I put it on and continued heading down the road to Southdale High, home of the coyotes.
I pulled up in the parking lot of the school near the blue picnic tables where the seniors eat lunch. I got out of my car and headed towards the entrance of the school. I looked down the long hallway, lined with coordinating yellow and blue lockers. I spotted my friends, gathered in their usual semi-circle.
"Yo, Fitz!" called my best-friend since first grade. Timmothy Jent -also referred to as tiny Tim, T-dog, t-bird, timinator, and Timmy T- had dirty blond hair and bright green eyes. We became friends when we decided to have a race in which the person who could drink their juice box the fastest won. Mine exploded in my face and apple juice went everywhere.

I walked over to Tim and the rest of my friends. Phoebe, who id known since around fifth grade. She and I had become friends when we were assigned to work on a project together. She had her dark raven hair thrown up into a messy bun and her arm was hooked with Tim's. They were dating.
"Hey Fitz," phoebe said.
"Hey phoebs," I replied back with a smile. "Where's Aiden?" I asked. Aiden was the player of our group and usually had a different girl on his arm each week.
"Last I saw he was making out with Jessica P. in the boys locker room." Tim said grinning. I rolled my eyes.
"Whose the new addition?" I questioned when I spied a short brunette standing a bit behind Phoebe.
"This is Everest, she's new to the school. Be nice to her Fitz or I'll kill you." Phoebe remarked, stepping aside allowing me full view of the "new girl." Everest had wavy dark brown hair that came a few inches past her shoulder. She wasn't very tall, maybe about 5'4 and she was thin.
"I'm always nice," I replied in a sweet voice. Tim let out a laugh and I rolled my eyes.
"You guys don't know how to appreciate great things," I complained.
"Oh stop your whining," Phoebe remarked. I heard a quiet laugh from Everest and turned my attention to her. When she met my gaze she immediately stopped. I instantly felt bad.
"So Everest," Tim started, "what class do ya' have?" Everest took out her schedule and nearly unfolded the white piece of paper. She scanned it over and finally said, "I have intro to astronomy."
"Perfect!" he shouted with a devilish grin on his face.
Send help. I thought to myself, I knew Tim and whenever he got that grin on his face it meant bad news.
"I have best idea," he began, "Kai here also takes intro to astronomy and he just so happens to have intro to astronomy too. Soo, what do you think about him walking you to class? Ya know, show you around a bit?"
Everest immediately looked at me, confusion and nervousness written across her face. I didn't know what to say.
"Uhh- I mean, only if you want," she said in a rush.
"I don't mind," I said smiling nicely. After I said that Tim started clapping his hands obnoxiously.
"I can see it now," he said sighing dramatically, "a beautiful friendship." Phoebe laughed just as the bell rang signaling us to get to class.
"Come on," I said to Everest, "follow me."

I led her up the left side stairwell since it's rarely ever used due to it always smelling terrible. We reached the landing and exited out the door and walked down the hallway. We made it to the last door and I opened it up, motioning her to go in.
"Nice of you to join us Mr. Fitz," said Mr. Landon. He was around 35 years old and had a mess of dark curly hair. I liked him because he was fun and he was an excellent teacher.
"Sorry sir but, I was showing the new girl around." As soon as I said "new girl" everyone in the class looked up.
"I'm Everest Ryker sir, it's a pleasure to meet you." Mr. Landon smiled at Everest.
"I'm glad to have another addition to my class. Since you know Kai already, you can sit next to him."
I sat down in my chair and Everest sat next to me. For the hour and a half of class she scribbled down notes in her navy blue journal.
The bell rang and I exited the classroom with Everest.
"So, what class do you have next?" I asked?
"Math with Mrs. Song"
"Here I can show you where that is. Follow me." So I led Everest to Mrs. Song's classroom. And I showed her where her classes were for the rest of the day.
"So how'd you like your first day?" I asked as Everest, Tim and I all walked to the parking lot.
"It was good." she responded.
"I gotta go, see you two tomorrow." Tim said getting into his car.
"See ya T-bird." I said waving goodbye. He pulled out and drove away.
"And this is my stop," I said, stopping at the red Nissan.
"Alrighty, bye Kai." smiles Everest.
"Bye," I started to leave the parking lot when i looked in my rear view mirror and saw Everest hadn't gotten into her car yet. I watched, waiting for her to get in a car but as she walked out of the parking lot it appeared to me that she didn't drive to school.
