PROLOGUE
"Ding!" Finally school is over! It is finally summer! I can live my life. No homework. No teachers. Perfect. Kids all over the place. Going to the pool, hanging out with friends. Except, for me, I am either hanging out with my best/only friend, Bennett, or I am at home being watched over by my overprotective mother. Most moms would let there kids go hang out with friends, have fun, but my mom is the total opposite. I can't go outside when it's dark, I cannot be alone. EVER! Those are just some of the rules. Everything was fine. I was an ordinary girl, not very popular, not noticed, very obedient, and self conscious. Until one day. When all that changed.
CHAPTER 1
I open my phone and see that I have five missed calls from Bennett. Oh is he going to be mad. He hates it when I don't answer his calls. I know I am going to get a long speech about how I should have my volume up so I can hear. I dial his number waiting for the speech to begin.
"Hello?"
"Hey Bennett. It's me? Sorry I missed ur calls. I was busy."
"You were busy?" he says playing with me. "You know I hate it when you don't answer my calls. I started to worry. Anything could have happened."
"I know. Sorry." I say
" It's fine. So what's up?"
" Oh you know, locked in my house." I say
"Oh, well do u want to go do something?" he says
" Sure! I'll meet u at Boothers in twenty minutes."
" Okay! See you then." he says, and I hang up the phone.
Twenty minutes later I am sitting at Boothers coffee shop waiting for Bennett. When I told my mom I was coming to meet Bennett here, she wasn't so sure at first with me walking alone, but she ended up driving me anyway. Even though Boothers is only five minutes away from my house.
I see Bennett come in and he walks over to our regular spot in the corner where I am sitting.
"Hey Natalie."
" Hey."
"It's finally summer. I can't believe it! Finally finished with eleventh grade." He says.
" Not for me. I still wish we were still in school. It's the only place where I can get away from my mom for 8 hours." I say.
" Yeah." He says.
I look over at Bennett. He is tall, and handsome. Most of the girls in our school drool over him. Try so hard for him to notice them. He has had lots of opportunities to ditch me for some more popular friends, but he has stayed with me. I don't think he even knows, or cares, about all the people wanting to be his friend.
"What?" He says. Snapping me out of my thought.
" Oh, nothing." I say a little embarrassed, but I don't know why. He is my best friend. I shouldn't be embarrassed in front of him.
A couple girls come in and immediately come over to Bennett. Ugh, here we go again. First the flirt, acting all cute and insistent, then the "can I have your number, and boom! They are a couple, but that doesn't happen with Bennett. He hasn't had a single girlfriend since I met him. And I have known him since third grade.
While he is occupied with the girls. I look away trying not to throw up, when a really hot guy comes into the cafe. And when I say hot, like really hot! One of the hottest guys I have ever seen. He turns his head and notices me staring at him. He winks at me. At me! I am surprised that none of the girls drooling over Bennett have noticed him. The hot guy gestures me to come over to his seat. I tell Bennett that I will be back soon and walk over to the hot guy.
