The Staff
Long before the reign of Elves, Men, and Goblins, there were the Three Weavers. The Weavers wove creation, brought up mountains, hung the stars in the sky. They swept the ocean and carved the caverns. They breathed the life into Balk, the first creature to step foot on the Land. Balk was the first of the Mur, and the Weavers loved him dearly. So they gave him a wife, Lana, the second of the Mur. She bore three sons: El, Menn, and Golon. El and Menn were good-natured, hearty people, and they both bore faithful sons and daughters. But Golon was different. There was a darkness inside him, the first darkness that ever was, for back then there was only light and day, nothing else. Finally, Golon could bear it no more.
He snuck out and journeyed far to the west, where he could do as he pleased. He traveled far, across mountains and deserts, until he found a small hidden valley, underneath the great mountain, Gal. There he came to rest, and stayed there for one hundred years, for the Mur are almost immortal. But El and Menn had begun looking for him, for he was their brother, after all. When they finally found the hidden valley after years of searching, they were broken and bruised from the journey. There they found a great castle, rising up until it almost touched the sky. It would have been a marvelous and spectacular scene, but there was darkness inside it. El and Menn had never felt this before, no one had, except for Golon and his children. El and Menn feared this power more than anything, and sought to destroy it. They traveled back and forged two objects, the Gem and the Orb, life and creation. With these objects, they thought, they could destroy darkness forever. So they gathered their children, every single one of them, even the women, for back then they were treated as equals, and marched toward the valley of Gal for war. They traveled many years, before they finally reached hidden valley. And when they did, they were shocked.
For Golon had been prepared for the attack, and had raised his own army, though only half as big as El and Menn's. Still, they had been taught the power of darkness, and were much more powerful than the others. The two armies faced each other, sword in hand, shield on their back, waiting. Until El shouted, "Attack!" and the armies rushed forward with inhuman speed. Great was the battle of the Valley of Gal, and it lasted fifty years. El and Menn's army were pushing the Golon army back, slowly but surely. Finally, they forced what was left in Golon's army into the Tower of Gal. It looked like El and Menn's army had won, but just as they were about to finish them off, Golon himself joined the battle. He was ten times stronger than their ten strongest men combined. He barreled through the army, destroying hundreds along the way. For he had forged the ultimate weapon, The Dark Sword, destruction. El and Menn, watching from above, saw this terrible weapon. They grabbed the Gem and the Orb, for, so they thought, these were the only things that could destroy the Sword. They rushed bravely down the valley, striking any of Golon's soldier that would come near. Finally, they faced Golon himself.
The three objects; the Gem, the Orb, and the Sword, glowed so brightly that all who looked were blinded by the light. Each Mur fought bravely, with an object in their hand. El, with the Orb, lunged at Golon and his Sword. The objects crashed together from the force, but neither could break the other. Soon, Menn, with the Gem, joined the clash, too. The three objects, life, creation, and destruction, pressed against each other, with all the force of El, Menn, and Golon combined. Finally, the objects exploded from the force, and destroyed every living thing in existence.
But the Weavers had watched this battle, and had protected two children of each descendant, one male and another female, and when the great blast was over, they were the only six left alive. Even the Mur, who were almost immortal, did not survive the blast. So, there became a New Age, known as the Peace Age, where everyone lived in harmony. El's descendants were called Elves, Menn's were called Men, and Golon's descendants became Goblins. Because of the wickedness of Golon, the Weaver's cursed his descendants with corrupted skin. But, nevertheless, they lived in peace with Men and Elves. But, slowly, after many years, they began to move west, and Men and Elves began to move east, away from each other. The elves went to The Edge of the land, past the mountains of Ceranorm and stayed there. The Men, who were not as quick and fit and nimble as the Elves, could not pass the great mountains, and therefore stayed in the middle of the Land.
