Six hours later Luke sat in the hospital fully rested. It seemed draining his body of a pint of blood was the only way he would get undisturbed sleep. Regardless, of the anger that saturated his mind- from Lucas not telling him what his plans were- he felt horrible seeing his brother near death. When he arrived at the hospital he saw Lucas laid out on a stretcher. The cloth on the stretcher was covered in blood and Lucas had laid in the midst of it all. His body was severely limp and skinny.
Lucas had never been the biggest boy growing up but at that moment in time he looked abnormally fraile. If Luke could guess he was sure Lucas stopped eating since Marilyn was taken. To add insult to injury the beatings his body was taking since the explosion only proved to make him look worse. The most unsettling thing of all was how much Lucas was changing, and not only physically.
Luke knew him to be a very controlled person, always thinking of the outcome of every decision more than necessary. However, It seemed that Lucas didn't put much thought into this "altercation" with Kenton. The Lucas that Luke knew would've found a way to obtain the cure, while not harming himself and ending Kenton for good but he was clearly distracted.
Grant had preached about the negative affects of love all childhood long and advised his boys to steer clear of it. Luke hated his father but he now knew why he did the things he did. Love was messy and a man like Lucas Van Beauton couldn't afford such a mess. It didn't really matter what Luke thought because Lucas had already plunged himself knee-deep in the bountiful wasteland of love. He's clearly gone to far for Luke to salvage what's left of his judgement, so all Luke could do is either stand by and watch his brother self destruct or help prolong it for as long as possible.
He swung his leg off the bed and was greeted with the cool tile floor. He felt much more rested but as soon as he comes back from Castillo's office he would take the rest of day to sleep. Another plus for not becoming CEO, doing whatever you want with your time.
He grabbed his shirt from the nearest chair and slipped it on. He buttoned the shirt and put his shoes on. He took the suit jacket that he had tossed on the chair, held it in his hands, and proceeded to leave the room until the door swung open and two Beautons walked in.
Luke stopped dead in his tracks and eyed the only Beautons he hated. He could feel his guard of defense simultaneously rising along with an arsenal of quick sarcastic comebacks. Anytime these two were around Luke might as well wear an armor made of steel to protect himself but since one wasn't at his disposal a figurative one will have to do.
He dropped his suit jacket back on the chair and eyed the unwanted intruders with a serious expression, until a bright smile took his face over. "If you're in line for blood the doc said I can't give until the next four weeks."
Over the years Luke had learned the best way to keep his guard up was to use a less than expected attitude. No one expects him to treat his enemies with an upbeat "happy" attitude and that's exactly why he does it. It distracts them and allows him the opportunity to stay in control of the situation.
"Your blood is the last thing I'm here for." Grant said.
"Then what can I do you for, father?" Luke asked slipping his hands in his pants pockets.
"Your act of both heroism and stupidity has been crippling Lucas." Grant said.
"I assume you're going to further explain." Luke responded.
"Allowing yourself to be Lucas' blood bag does not help him learn from his mistakes."
"I agree." Luke said without hesitation because he honestly did. "However, in this particular situation If I had allowed Lucas to learn from his mistakes we both know he'd be dead by now."
