Thomas hummed and moved his head to look around the math classroom, letting his eyes land on the most beautiful thing in there, [Y/n] [L/n].

She glanced in his direction before quickly looking in the opposite direction, frightened. He frowned and turned away as well.

He sighed, he'd been trying to get close to her since their senior year started, but every time he thinks he's almost made it, she closes up, and averts eye contact.

[Y/n], on the other hand, was afraid of anything and everything. Ever since her mother passed and her father had started beating her, she decided it was best to hide from everyone.

She didn't want anyone to know, she was ashamed of how weak she felt, how weak she was.

As she stared at the wall next to her she thought about Thomas and his futile attempts to get to know her.

She so desperately wanted to break for him, let him see what she'd been hiding for most of her life, but she couldn't bring herself to do so.

She was scared that once she let something out, she wouldn't be able to stop the rest. She didn't want to tell him about all the bullying and abuse she had to endure, for all she would gain from that was pity.

Lost in thought, she didn't hear the bell that signaled the end of the day. She continued to be spaced out for a few minutes before she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Uh, [Y/n]?"

She looked up in fear to see Thomas. She was both terrified and excited to talk to him. She had a crush on him since the first grade, and he felt the same about her, but she wouldn't let him get close enough so she could find out.

"Huh?" [Y/n] asked, confused.

"The bell rang and you kept staring at the wall, are you okay?"

She smiled, "yes, of course, sorry. I was just distracted."

She thanked him and stood up, grabbing her bag and walking out of the classroom. He raced to catch up with her.

"You know, you don't have to be so afraid," he started. "I'm not going to bite."

She smiled. "I know, I really should give you a chance for once."

Excitement filled his eyes as he stepped a bit closer to her. She looked frightened by the sudden action and flinched away.

Thomas was concerned. Most people wouldn't react like that to a simple movement. "Are you sure you're okay?" he asked.

[Y/n] hesitantly nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure."

He sighed, a bit frustrated. "Okay, [Y/n], this is going to sound a bit weird, but I've actually had a crush on you for many years. I want to show you that I care, that I love and support you, but it's kind of difficult when all you do is run away."

"I-I-" she stuttered, "I like you too..."

She considered telling him about everything, but didn't want to make the situation more awkward.

She noticed Thomas's eyes brighten. Then, he did something she didn't expect and that kind of threw her off balance. He hugged her.

Her arms slowly wrapped around his torso and she smiled to herself. Though she didn't know what it felt like, she was pretty sure that this was love."

Butterflies flew through her stomach and tears began to prick at her eyes. Never before had she had someone to love her like this, to show her that she mattered. She had been on the edge of breaking down for a while, and now she didn't feel the need to.

All [Y/n] wanted to do was stay there, with Thomas, forever. She never wanted him to let her go.

Thomas felt her warm tears begin to soak the sleeve of his shirt. He hugged her tighter and rubbed her back. All he wanted was for her to be happy, even if he had to stay like that forever.

They loved each other, and little did they know, their love would never fade.
