Part One: A Spring Break of Change- Chapter One

"Suzan!" I yell from the kitchen of our tiny house. "Hurry up and move your ass. The guys will be back here with the others any minute."

The guys are Clayton, Lucas, Arthur, Andrew, Jackson and Stanley. I grew up next door to the twins Arthur and Andrew and being only a few months younger, it seemed only natural we became best friends. When I say next door I don't mean like in a subdivision with houses on top of houses. I mean about a mile from the farm up the dirt road from my parents house. Well more like siblings really. If you ask them I'm like the little sister they never had, but to understand everything I'm about to tell you you will need a bit of history.

We were inseparable even as kids. From the very first time we met, or at least the first I remember. The twin's mom, Emelia, and my mom, Morgan, were acquaintances through an organization called Women's Community Service Volunteer Program before we were born. It's a society sort of like a sorority just not affiliated with any school. You can only join by invitation or be brought in by a relative and most the members come from wealthy families or have connections with important people or simply women of high morals who do good without selfish motivations. Our mothers were both legacies brought into the organization by their mothers. Apparently our Great Grandmothers were the founders. Anyway the organization would get together with a bunch of other women in the community and organize litter clean up events, visit the elderly and drop off groceries, organize children's events, and Community fund raisers and celebrations. It was at one of the WCSVP Community celebration planning meeting that their friendship really started. The group of women had all gone to a church in town to plan their second annual spring festival. An event they set up in the local city park to encourage community togetherness. They set up the event with games and contests and end the night with a movie in the park. All food and entertainment is free provided by the women of WCSVP, although donations are accepted and appreciated at all their events. The donations received go to help the less fortunate families in the community and to help with the next event. It was some time during the planning of the children's activities that the women started talking about their own children that my mom shared the news she was pregnant. Art and Andy's mom was already five months pregnant and they really bonded over the joy and worry of being first time mothers. From then on they would carpool to the events and meetings they shared tips and discussed everything. When the boys were born my mom was one of the first people to get to hold them besides family. When I was born Mrs. Emelia and the boys were at the hospital with my mom. From what they say my dad, Rowan, was at the office working on permissions paperwork and designs for a big architecture project and Alijah Wolfe, the twins dad, was at his office consulting for the government about some security details they wanted to higher his company for, and Mrs. Em was on her way over with the boys to pick my mom up for a WCSVP meeting. My mom had just strapped on her heels and grabbed her purse from the hook by the door and made her way outside when Mrs. Em pulled up. That was when the contractions started. Right there in front of the door my mom doubled over in pain. The twins' mom threw the car in park and ran over to help but they didn't last long and she was able to get my mom in the car.

It was only the first so my mother insisted on heading to the meeting anyway because it was so important. They were to finalize plans for a fundraiser that supported a local outreach center for women children and families of abuse. My mother toughed it out most the way through the meeting before her water broke and the women forced her into Mrs. Em's car headed to the hospital. Mrs. Em pulled right up to the emergency room door with a troop of women behind her. Some of the WCSVP women got mom out of the car and ushered in to the hospital while everyone else parked and Mrs. Em brought the boys inside. In the waiting room one of the women was on the phone with my dad informing him not unkindly to get his ass to the hospital before he missed his wife giving birth and Mrs. Em called Mr. Alijah to inform him where she was with the kids and she might be late getting home.
