Madeline sat down on her bed, bored to death. "Another Saturday night with no plans. How lame is that," she thought aloud. After a few minutes, it came to her; she'd go over to Trevor's, her friend who lives two houses down the street. She found a pair of sandals and slipped those on. She walked out of her bedroom and down the stairs. She went into the kitchen to grab a quick banana, when she heard her dad and mom fighting in the livingroom. She sat the banana down and got to a spot where she could watch was going on without being seen.
Mom: "You bastard! How could you do that to me? Do you not have a brain in that big head of yours?" *slaps the father*
Dad: *growls at the mother* "I'd watch your language around me if I were you."
Mom: "Why should I do anything you say? You cheated on me with my best friends, so our relationship is finished."
Dad: *thinks for a minute* "Stay right here." *walks into the kitchen and grabs a glass. He pours some wine into it, and he pours a lot of a strange substance into it. He mixes it up really good and brings it back into the livingroom. He gives the glass to the mother, and within 5 minutes of finishing the drink, my mom was writhing on the floor in pain. Soon after, she stopped moving.* "It's over when I say it's over.....Madeline, I know you're in the kitchen, so listen up. It's not over yet. I'm coming for you eventually." *He rushes out the door and slams it behind him.*
Once he was gone, Madeline got up and rushed over to her mother. Madeline checked for a pulse, but there was none. She then frantically shook her mother, shouting, "wake up, mom. Please wake up." When she realized her mother was dead, the tears started flowing effortlessly. For a few minutes, Madeline sat there and cried and cried and cried. Once she could think semi-clearly, she pulled out her cell and dialed 9-1-1.
Madeline: "Please come quick. My mother's dead."
Operator: "What's your address?"
Madeline: "I live at ---------------."
Operator: "Okay sweeite, help is on the way."
Madeline: "Thank you."
She hung up the phone and put it in her pocket again. While she was waiting for the people to arrive, she grabbed ahold of her mother's hand. She said, "mom, you were too young to die. You still had the rest of your life ahead of you.....You deserved better than dad. You deserved someone who can love you faithfully.....I know you're gone, but I just wanted to say that I will never forget you. You taught me all I need to know, and I'll be forever grateful. I hope you have a nice afterlife. I'll be with you one day."
There was a knock at the door. Madeline let go of her mother's hand and got up to answer the door. She opened the door and pointed to the woman lying on the floor. A tall man in a trenchcoat walked over to her mother and quickly examined her body. He didn't spot anything wrong with her body, but then he sniffed her breath and said the worst possible thing. He walked over to Madeline and said, "it was arsenic posioning." Madeline fell to her knees in disbelief. The trenchcoat man crouched down beside her and asked, "did you see anything?" She nodded, and the guy asked, "can you tell me what you saw?" "My parents were in the midst of a fight, when my dad comes into the kitchen. He poured some wine into a glass and put this strange substance into the drink. He mixed it up and gave it to my mother. He bailed right after she died." The guy examined her to see if she was lying, but he could only see the truth.
Two guys walked in with a stretcher and put Madeline's mother on it. They rolled her out of the house, leaving only her and the guy in the house. He gave her a sympathetic look and said, "I'm sorry for your loss. We'll do anything we can to find your father and bring him to justice. However, if you ever need to talk to someone, here's a card to a really good therapist." He handed Madeline the card and left.
