Tord's POV
Matt had lead me back down the main hall and down the other path. The flow of students shortened due to them entering their classes. "Here you go." Matt chimed as he pointed to a door. I give a quick thank you before entering the room. The first thing that hit me was the smell. The smell of a soft vanilla filled the air. The room had all the desks near the front and a large area in the back that had bean bags and books.
The students hung out all around the room. Some in desks and others sitting in the bean bags at the back of the room. I looked around, no sight of any teachers. The bell chimed and the students got quiet. Where was the teacher?
The door opened and a tall-ish, brown haired lady rushed in. "I'm so sorry class, I had to get some more copies." She apologized. The kids kinda just stood there, waiting for instructions. The teacher set the papers on her desk and looked up. "Well, go on. Sit down." She said waving her hand at the desks. "Uh, don't you have a seating chart or something?" A boy in a yellow hoodie asked.
The teacher just chuckled, "Seating chart? No, you can sit where you please." The room was silence chaos for a minute as everyone tried to find a seat next to their friends. I sat near the front, having no friends to sit by. When the room was finally silent the teacher introduced herself. "Hello class, My name is Geovana. You may call me, Geovana, Geo, Grandma, aunt, Mom I don't mind. Just please don't call me by my last name. I just find it more polite that way."
I frowned, ' This was going to be awkward calling a teacher by her first name.' "Now that we have that out of the way, I would like to spent the first few weeks reviewing what you learned last year while also showing you my way of teaching. Now," She continued, writing a few equations onto the board. "what do all of these equations have in common?" She kept her back to the class. A few people had raised their hand but she didn't see them. "Please call out your answer, I am not very fond of raising hands." There was soft whispering as some kids were confused. Was this teacher serious?
First she had us call her by her first name, then she doesn't want us to raise our hands? This was weird. When no one answered she turned around. "Does no one know what these equations have in common?" There was silence before a boy in an pink hoodie answered. "They are both... uh.... two step equations?" He sounded unsure. Geovana nodded, "Good. They are all two step equations. Now let me show you a secret." She turned back to the board.
The rest of the class was spent with Geovana showing us how to find the pattern for two step equations. Then how to apply the pattern to all the two step equations. "All right, class ends in five minutes. Please pack up, there is no homework for today." She says wiping down the board and going back to her desk. The room exploded in noise as everyone started to talk. I keep my head down and started to pack up. The bell rang and we all left the class, the hall once again flooded with students.
I try and keep my head down as I walk to my locker. "Yeah, apparently he was some kind of transfer student." A familiar voice says from a few lockers away. I close the door confused and see Tom leaning against a wall, only 5 feet away. He was talking to a boy in green. The boy shrugged, "Well I haven't seen him before. He isn't in any of my classes." The boy said. I turn away from them and back to my locker, setting my new math and history book in there. The bell rang again and I looked down at my map. Science, room 312. I adjust my bag and start towards the 300 hall.
When I got to the class I instantly reeled back. The smell ... the room smelled of chemicals and something burning. Memories flooded in, white walls, needles, anti bacterial soap, My arm, metal, Panic, dulled pain. All of it crashed down on me at once. The teacher saw me. "Hey, kid are you alright?" I shake my head no and cover my mouth with my right hand. The entire class was watching me. "What is wrong?" He asked. I shake my head again and take a step back.
I couldn't go in there. The smell was too strong. The teacher frowned. "Ok, stop your nonsense. Now get in here." I take another step back. If I went in there I would either have a panic attack or vomit. Or both. The students started to laugh. I was the only kid that refused to enter the classroom. The teacher was furious. "Fine, go to the office. Return when you actually want to learn." He growled. I nod and quickly start back down the hall and to the office.
