Song of the Chapter: Young Volcanoes, Fall Out Boy
The tour had been happening for about a week now, tonight's show being the sold out PPL center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was a huge venue. Soundcheck had just finished and Eva sat herself by the piano, just staring out at the vast empty space. Tour had treated her pretty well so far and when people started knowing who she was, the fans accepted her with mainly open arms. There was hardly time to stop and breathe let alone think and Eva could only pray that she could stay oblivious to her feelings for a while longer. Brendon walked out and smiled at the sight of Eva staring out into the empty arena.
"It's crazy how this will be completely full soon," she said, registering Brendon's presence immediately. The black-haired man just nodded and sighed at the thought before plopping down next to the girl. "Yea, sometimes I wonder how we ever got here." That made Eva shake her head and grin before looking over at her Dad. "How do you think I feel?" she joked before continuing. "I lost both my parents and ended up in a home before I miraculously got found. There's no way I would ever be here if even the slightest thing had been different." She smiled and looked back to the building. Brendon swung his arm around the girl's shoulders and joined her in the quiet absorption of the facts; the two were destined to be family, seeing how well they fit together, but it would never have happened if even one thing was different. "I'm so glad we found you, E." Brendon breathed, letting the slight echo his naturally loud voice caused wash over the two. Eva leaned into him and wrapped an arm around his waist. The two sat there quietly for a few more minutes before stage managers began running around, signalling the start of the show soon.
The show went nearly perfect, expect for Pete falling during their set, only to be laughed at by every single person back stage, and on stage for that matter. "You okay?" Eva said while giggling as she hugged Pete when he exited stage. He laughed and threw her over his shoulder before walking out the back doors of the venue and walking into the FOB tour bus. "I guess I'm staying here?" she asked while still laughing. Pete nodded and smiled before pulling out his phone to call Brendon. In a matter of minutes, everyone was caught up to where Eva was and Pete threw an old pair of sweatpants and t-shirt to her. "Thank you!" she called after she walked into the bathroom and locked the door.
Eva stripped her performance clothes and hopped into the small tiled shower. The water ran down her as she just stood there and got lost in time. A few minutes later she got out and looked in the mirror. Her body hadn't thinned out like she wanted since she got adopted. Eva tried to let the thoughts escape with the steam. She knew that tour would make it significantly easier to lose weight though, with all the running around and stress and performing. 'Just skip a meal or two a day and it'll be fine.' an evil voice rang, shouting to her from the back of her head. She shook her head gently and tried to ignore it. Eva continued to examine her body. The scars on her thighs were less dark and beginning to turn white. The ones on her arms were still bright and beaming and so very obvious. As they continued to heal, part of Eva wished they would either be fresher or disappear completely. The in between moments of recovery were sending her deep into denial about truly getting better. These moments of isolation and mirrors and panic easily demonstrate the toll this was starting to take on her.
A few tears escaped her eyes and she pulled on the clothes and ran from the bathroom like it was chasing after her. She walked into the back lounge area to get away from everything for awhile and sat down against the wall, holding her arms tightly and breathing. Her phone buzzed and Theo's name was displayed.
theo: i miss you, E. i love watching the videos you send me and i'm so proud of you. are you doing okay?
The text broke her heart, because she was going to lie to this boy she knew that she loved. But, lying was easier right now. Lying was going to be how she handled this for the tour.
