*Thud* *Thud* 'Get up Marvo!! Now!!"  Marvo dazed then sat up, he wiped the sleep from his eyes and blinked. The sun was hazy through his dull dust stained curtains and stung his eyes as he gazed out into the world. He quickly got changed and dashed down the creaky stairs into the kitchen. Set out on the table was a pot of soup and four chipped and chiseled bowls. Marvo sat down."Good morning Marvo" Said his Momma as she quickly bustled into the kitchen dressed in her usual maid outfit. "Miss Crow's grandson is arriving today and the whole household has to look spick'n'span!" she explained, as she adjusted her hair and gloves. Marvo's Momma worked for Miss Crow, a old widow that lived in a mansion perched nicely upon a hill about twenty minutes walk from Marvo's house. She was a batty old lady but never the less kind and thoughtful towards Marvo and his family. She smiled "Do I look okay?" she asked, doing a little twirl as if she was in a ballet performance. "You look like a princess Momma!" exclaimed Marvo's younger brother Jackie, Momma's dark cheek's blushed "Oh don't talk like that, working's what Im made for and working's what'll do!" she said. Marvo served himself some soup. To him it tasted like vegetables drowned in chilled water, but drank it till the last drop.

After Momma had left, Marvo quickly pulled on his boots, stuffed his soot stain gloves into his pockets and briskly walked down the dirt path that led to the factory. As he marched he stopped. Stuck at a odd angle was a poster. On it read, "We want you! For the U.S army! Nearest recruiting station"  he examined the poster, printed on it was a old white man, his arm bent into a point, he was wearing a white top hat decorated with stars and a blue coat and bow tie. Marvo considered him for a moment then softly smiled. He made his way quickly down the road towards the factory, he made it just in time, he passed the benches upon benches of men, women and children, hopelessly  slaving away, making ammunition, arms, and clothing that are to be shipped off to the men in the front lines. Marvo took his usual spot among the ammunition stations. He was greeted by a thick young smile. Leon Aywood was Marvo's oldest friends, they met when he was two and had been best friends ever since. "So, have you thought about joining?" asked Leon, Marvo thought for a second "You want me to fight and possibly give my life to a country that hates me?" Said Marvo angrly "No damn way!" Leon looked disappointed "Well then...." Said Leon after a while " Looks like I'll be taking the Germans down on my own..." Marvo stared at him, shocked "You didn't...."
