Planes. Not the most comfortable things to sit in, but surely the quickest way to get to a destination. In my case? To my girlfriend, who lives thousands and thousands of miles away– Miami. Although, I wasn't particularly excited to have sore muscles and uncomfortable back pain for 15 hours of my life, seeing one's soulmate is worth every dime and ache imaginable.
"Thank God," I thought, eventually feeling the wheels of the plane touch ground, the clarity of blue skies and clouds meeting my eyes first before spotting the different landing strips. A refreshing sight. Soon enough, I'd get to see home– my other home. The home I'd prefer to live in for the rest of my life, the one with two eyes and a beating heart.
After picking up what little baggage I had, I quickly dialed Camila's mom, Sinu. I began to hear the ring in less than 10 seconds before the faint Hispanic accent of her heritage vibrated through the receiver.
"Hello, (Y/N)! You landed, yes?" Sinu says, causing me to laugh at how spot-on she was with coincidence.
"I am! I'm at– Oh! I see you! Turn around," I reply. The bright smile of a woman immediately faced me, the small figure shuffling her feet towards me as her arms wrapped me in a sweet embrace. The resemblance she had with her daughters was unbelievably similar.
"Hi dear! So lovely to see you after so long," Sinu coos, beckoning me over to her car. Her arms stretched out for a hug to which I accepted, rocking our bodies side to side for a moment before we pulled away.
"So nice seeing you too, mama. Thanks for picking me up today," I say appreciatively, earning a dismiss of a wave as Sinu made her way to the driver's seat.
"No worries, no worries. Just so glad you had a safe trip. Go ahead and put your belongings away, I'll get in the car." I tucked away my belongings in the trunk of the red sedan, buckling my seatbelt once seated shotgun– preparing for the winding roads that lead to her.
"You still look as young as ever," I blurt out playfully, earning a laugh from the woman as she moved to pat my knee.
"I can see why Camila keeps you now," Sinu teases, causing me to grin at the mention of the girl I love. As we sat in the car, I watched as the scenery of the airport began to gradually leave my sight to be replaced with the beautiful downtown city of Miami. Ahh. Houses and people and most importantly– sunshine. Living in California has its similarities with Florida, so call me fortunate to have a girl that lives in familiar weather. I don't think I could ever really live in cold climates, knowing it stays cold forever.
"Camila has absolutely no idea you're coming, right?" Sinu asks, lowering the volume of the reggae station playing on the radio. I shook my head, releasing a small squeal out of my excitement.
"I'm just so excited to be back. I can't wait to see the look on her face," I reply. Sinu hums with a smile, nodding her head in agreement as she lets her index fingers tap the leather of the steering wheel.
"Believe me, I do too. She's always talking about you and saying she misses you so much. (Y/N) this, (Y/N) that. I suppose the FaceTime calls and the text messages just don't do justice for this relationship, huh?" The latin woman says, a hearty laugh escaping her as I joined.
