Hi, everyone!
This is the very first story I've ever published online! I love writing about the characters from the Cars movies, the third one in particular. Cars 3 is actually the Cars movie that got me interested in the Cars series. I love Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm, they're some of my favorite Disney characters! Since it was getting close to Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fun to write a short story about the relationship between Cruz and Jackson. I hope I did a decent job for my first time, and I hope you guys enjoy this short story!
*Disclaimer: I do not own Pixar, Disney, the Cars series, or any of its characters. If anything I wrote seems weirdly similar to any other story, it is entirely coincidental. This story is 100% my own work (except for the characters and the movie it is based off of).*
It was the day of the next big race. All around, cars were buzzing with excitement. Race cars were being interviewed by reporters as they prepared to go out on the track. But there was something special about today. Because today also happened to be a certain holiday.
It was Jackson Storm's least favorite day of the year.
That's right. It was February 14th. Valentine's Day.
Jackson had always despised this holiday. He didn't understand why some car decided to dedicate a day of the year to celebrate love. There was no point! It was just an excuse for extra public displays of affection. He remembered his third grade teacher reading the class a story about how Valentine's Day was started by some dude named Saint Valentine who wrote love letters to his wife while he was in prison or something. He didn't get why everyone had to make a holiday out of that. Wait...didn't that guy end up getting his head chopped off?
Jackson tried not to look around. As far as the eye could see, there were sweethearts nuzzling each other, holding tires, and kissing each other's bumpers off. Jackson glanced towards a couple who just happened to be sharing a very passionate kiss at that moment. The black and blue IGNTR racer shuddered in disgust.
"Hey, are you alright, kid?"
Jackson snapped his attention towards his crew chief, Ray Reverham. "Oh, uh...yeah," he replied, trying to look calm. "Yeah. I'm good."
Ray raised a brow. "You were shaking," he said, gazing at the racer with concern.
"What? No I wasn't," Jackson lied, looking away. He saw the couple, still kissing. He just about lost his breakfast. You can't be serious, he thought. How long do you need to suck each other's lips, you creeps? He looked back to Ray, who was still staring at him. "Dude, quit staring at me like that," Jackson said. "I said I'm fine."
Ray didn't buy it. "Uh huh," he said. "Anyway, you'd better get on out there. They just called the racers to the track."
Jackson glanced towards the track, trying to avoid the sight of the smooching couple. "Yeah, okay," he said. "See ya, Ray." He started to drive away.
"Good luck, kid," Ray called to him.
"Pff. I won't need it," Jackson bragged with a smirk.
Cruz Ramirez watched from her starting position as Jackson Storm approached the track. The yellow and blue Dinoco race car tried not to appear nervous at the sight of her rival. Maybe it was because she was afraid of him. He did slam her into a wall in her first race. But maybe there was a different reason she felt so anxious around him. She felt a fluttery feeling in her engine as she watched the legendary sleek, jet-black car coming closer. He was doing his classic Jackson Storm smirk for the cameras. When his gray eyes made contact with Cruz's brown eyes, she quickly averted her gaze. Storm rolled up next to her.
