I watch lazily as my father fumbles around the kitchen in an attempt to find his car keys. Today is my birthday. Or my "special day", I'm seventeen now and my party is only a few minutes away, but at this rate...
Finally I stand up. "I'll be waiting for you." I simply say as I make my way to the door only stopping when my dad gives a triumphet: "I FOUND THEM!" Holding up his keys.
And in comes sister only twelve but as sarcastic as can be. She slowly claps now obviously unamused and unimpressed by our fathers sudden find.
And off we went.

***************

My reflection stares back at me in the window of the car.
Short black hair, round glasses, huge green cartoon-like eyes that I want to rip out of my skull, chubby cheeks that random old women keep poking. Nothing impressive.
And so we arrive.
The air is cool and blows kisses across my face making me shiver. And seeing my discomfort my father led us inside. The worker takes us to a room filled with family members.
And the noise hits me.
Swirling in my head are all the, "good lucks", and, "happy birthdays.", That I receive.
And then I see him.
