"Carter? Brooke? We know you're in here! No need to be shy!"one of the men chuckled.
No one said a word. "Tch. It's been months. We just want some action too,"the other said.
Haze and Maria gripped both my hands. I looked over at Shadow to see him furiously swiping and tapping on the screen of one of the phones.
What is he...
One of the men's phones beeped frantically. "Shit. Boss needs us. Come on, man, let's go."
"Ugh. Alright. Don't go anywhere, you two!"
We waited for what seemed like forever after the men left to get up. "What were you doing, Shadow?"I asked. "Easy. I used Brooke's phone to fake a signal that supposedly came from Sonic's phone. It usually takes about ten minutes to work, so I had to speed up the process,"he replied, stuffing it into his pocket.
He picked up his gun. "That was close, though. We should probably leave Carter's phone here. We can't turn the location off on it. It'd be much safer with Brooke's."
Shadow shoved Carter's phone under some clothes. "Alright. Let's go."
We carefully yet quickly made our way down the halls, our shoes clicking against the floors.
We came across a few people, but Shadow took them out quickly without struggle. We made it outside to the back of the building and found our truck.
The wind was starting to pick up. Snow swirled mildly around us as we prepared to leave. I put our bag on the floor of the back seat and helped the kids into the truck. Shadow had the hood of the car up and was checking everything to make sure it hadn't been tampered with.
We actually made it. We're gonna get out of here. I can't say we've escaped Sonic forever but...
*Click*
The door to the building opened. "Shit!"I muttered, getting down. The kids ducked down in their seats. Multiple footsteps came toward the truck.
"Come on out. I already know you're here. We won't shoot. I want to congratulate you."
I hesitated before slowly standing up and coming around the truck. Sonic stood with a smile on his face. Many of his henchmen stood behind him.
"Good job. You managed to escape,"he said. "How did you know?"I asked. Shadow hurried around the truck and stood beside me.
"Easy. I know you, (Y/n). You don't give up. Especially not when the people you love are in danger. Plus I had cameras set up,"replied Sonic with a small shrug of the shoulder. "You aren't...pissed?"I asked, taking hold of Shadow's arm.
"Of course, I am. Not at you though,"he sighed. He snapped his fingers and two of his men dragged Carter forward. His leg was still bleeding heavily. He looked as if he were falling in and out of consciousness.
"I'm mad at this fucker. He can't even keep a woman and a couple of kids under control. Tch. Pathetic,"Sonic scowled. He pulled a pistol from his jacket pocket. Pressing the barrel against Carter's forehead, Sonic smiled at me.
"Sonic, that's unnecessary,"I said softly, reaching out to him. "Oh ho ho! Now you care fo him? He's useless. You said it yourself, (Y/n). I mean, I was contemplating torturing him until he died but we don't have that much time together, do we, baby?"Sonic smiled, tightening his finger around the trigger.
In a split second, Shadow shoved my face in his chest as the gun went off. I slowly pulled away to see Carter face down in the snow. His bright blood splattered and staining the pure white snow.
