Chapter 8: Grounded

I woke up to the sound of my mom's voice "honey wake up your dad's here to get you"

I woke up and rubbed my eyes after checking my phone it was 4:35 already I had 5 minutes before he threw a fit I ran upstairs and packed all my stuff up and then I ran down stairs I walked out side with my mom

And opened the car door my mom gave me a kind hearted smile she kissed my cheek "have fun at your dad's sweety and be safe I love you never forget that"

"Bye mom I love you"

She closed my door and walked over to my dad's window she looked down "Will...."

"Ashley...."

"So uh me and David are taking Luke and Bella next weekend to the lake and I know it wouldn't be my weekend to have Harper but I was wondering if she could...."

"No"

"What..."

"You want her and I said no, she's not coming she'll be back in two weeks"

"William this a family thing and I don't want her to miss..."

"This is not her family Ashley we are...we were"

"Whatever I'm not arguing with you about this she's 18 now and she can make her own decisions"

"No she will not I am her father"

"She's growing up you can't control her forever"

"Ashley I hate to end this, but it's currently 4:45 and me and Harper should be going she has a piano lesson to attend and if you were a good mother you would know that"

"Don't turn this on me, your the one who pushed me away"

He rolled up the window in her face while she was saying something she started to hit the window when David came out and held her as me and dad drove off back to the normal life.

We drove down the roads engulfed in silence I don't take piano I couldn't play a cord to save my life, he was just doing that to get at mom and I knew it, he glanced back "I see you got your nails done Harper"

"Uhh...yeah"

"That's nice I guess your mother took you to get them done"

"Actually it was a ....friend of mine"

His eye's widened, "friend, and just who is this friend of yours"

"Danielle Miller"

"Oh...her, listen Your not to be hanging out with her understood"

"But dad she's the only friend I have that's my ag...."

"No are you seriously arguing with me, Harper you've spent too much time with your mother, I'm thinking about cutting back to three weekends and two holidays the 4th of July and Halloween"

"But dad...."

"Shut it and those nails have to go am I making myself clear"

"Yes sir"

"Thank you"

We pulled up at our house and we got out I dragged my bags to my room and looked at the clock 5:00 I really didn't want to cook I ran down stairs "hey dad can I go get Chinese take out from down the road"

"Not as long as those nails are on you I want you to go upstairs and take them off and take off those jeans there too tight"

I ran upstairs and took off the nails...not easy then I changed out of the jeans to something he'd be okay with I put on a white button down shirt and some loose jeans I let my hair down and walked downstairs he smiled "better, now what is it"

"Well I was wondering if Chinese take out would be fine with you"

"Sure honey"

"Can I take my truck to go get it"

"But it's not Friday"

"I know but I need to go get the food so.....please"

He sighed "fine I expect you back before 6:30 sharp any later and I'll give you a punishment"

I nodded and grabbed my keys

I ran and got in my truck and drove off down the roads I pulled up at Panda express and got out I ordered the food and paid then when I went to walk out I saw Andrew he smiled

"Hey Hannah"

"Harper..."

"Right sorry, so what are you doing here"

I looked down "getting food for my and my dad"

He nodded "nice, hey we should hang out sometime I really want to get to know you"

"I don't think that's such a good idea Andrew"

"Well I do you know your really beautiful Harper, tell me is it a crime"

"What"

"To look so god darn gorgeous"

I laughed dryly "thanks Andrew"

"Doing nothing but telling the truth, hey do you have a number I can borrow"

"Are you trying to get my number Andrew"

He smirked, "maybe"

"Well I might have one but, you'll have to work for it"

"I can do that, anything for you gorgeous" he winked

I smiled brushing a piece of hair behind my ear he smiled, "so see you at school tommorow then"

"Yeah see ya Andrew"

He smiled and I walked by him getting into my truck I cranked up and drove off.

I drove down the roads and got home it was 6:15 he said before 6:30 so I was good I walked in with the food and sat it down on the table I got out two plates, I put food for him on one and food for me on the other then I poured him a glass of water and I poured myself one too we always ate at 7:40 so I had all this food ready nearly an hour earlier I know Im not supposed to go in his office but I wanted to see if we could maybe eat earlier tonight

I crept down the hall and peeked into the door he had his head down was he...crying in all my years I had barely ever seen my dad cried

I watched then I opened it his head immediately sprung up his eyes were red and puffy I went to his side and hugged him, he pushed me away I sighed, "dad can you please tell me what's wrong"

"No, I don't want to talk about it, what did I say about coming in here"

"But I..."

"No buts give me your phone your grounded Eat dinner and go straight to bed"

"I was only trying to help you dad, but all you ever do is push me away, I'm sorry I'm not the perfect daughter that you want I'm sorry that I care about you"
I walked out and ran upstairs and into my room I slammed my door, me and my dad rarely got in fights, usually I Just obeyed him but lately I was feeling a bit different.

I laid in bed and eventually drifted off into a deep sleep.
