Chapter 2: Specific Request

Hey everyone! I now present another chapter of The Fire Within. And that is all I have to say. Nothing much to say...
I feel like my creativity skills have just gone down with these author notes.

"Hmmm..." Natsu frowned at the mission request that Mira gave to him earlier.

The mission was fairly simple and straightforward. There were some monsters terrorizing a town, and they need mages to deal with them. There was a catch to this: We are specifically requesting Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail to attend this mission. Anyone who would like to take on this mission is welcomed to come, but Natsu Dragneel must be with them.

It was not strange for missions to have specific requests, such as asking for specific types of mages that would benefit the mission. But asking for a specific person was just suspicious. And the way the mission request was written did not sit well with the fire dragon slayer.

Lucy grabbed the mission description from the table, and started to analyze it further. She started to frown as well. After a complete and thorough analysis, Lucy set down the paper back on the table. She sighed as the paper hit the table.

"I don't like this at all," Lucy said with a concerned tone.

Romeo, Wendy, and the exceeds gathered around to look at the request as soon as the paper sat on the table.

Natsu crossed his arms and sighed. His frown deepened the more he thought about this mission.

"But Natsu-nii," Romeo said as he faced the fire dragon slayer. "If the people are in danger, the right thing to do would be to help them."

Wendy seconded his statement with a nod. Carla, on the other hand did not say anything. But the way she reacted to the description was worrisome. Happy asked about her strange behavior, but she brushed it off, much to the male exceed's dismay.

"By the way," Carla said loud enough so she could get everyone's attention. "Where is the mission taking place?"

"Sparks," Lucy said as she laid down a map of Fiore on the table. Everyone moved in to get a better look at the map.

"It's a small town in the mountains of a small island located just outside of Fiore. Known for their beautiful fireworks, which can only be seen during their annual flame festival. People all around Earthland would travel far and wide just to see those fireworks."

Lucy paused for a moment. Her hand clenched to the edges of the paper. "Sparks is also known to have some of the best fire mages in all of Earthland.

"But if they are known for their fire mages, why would they need Natsu for a simple mission?"

"Exactly," Lucy retorted.

Wendy and Romeo looked at each other, both now feeling concerned about the fire dragon slayer. They directed their attention to him, but Natsu was just sitting there, staring at the request.

Natsu wasn't the only one to have a blank stare. Just behind the group was Carla, who was just suspended in the air. Her whole body was trembling, as she now sported a fearful look.

"Carla."

The white exceed suddenly snapped out of her thoughts. She looked up to see Happy standing right in front of her, both of his paws on her shoulders. He looked so worried.

"Sorry," Carla whispered to him, but her gaze was directed at the ground. Then, with a sigh, she placed her paw on top of the male exceed's paw and lightly squeezed it. Carla looked at Happy, whose eyes were opened so wide, they looked like it was on the verge of exploding. Her lips slightly curved into a smile. "Thanks. I'm fine now."

"Uh-oh, someone's in love~" Romeo playfully sang as he bumped Happy's shoulder.

"Are we really going to have this conversation again?" Happy asked with a hostile tone as he broke his moment with Carla. The boys moving away from the group; their argument headed toward the stage residing in front of the guild.

"Hey," Wendy said as she placed her hand on Carla's shoulder. "Are you really fine?"

With a slight hesitation, Carla gave a single nod to the head. Her eyes, however, were still looking at the ground.

Carla suddenly felt the Wendy's hand rub her back in a smooth motion. Most likely trying to reassure her. And it did make her feel better. But...

Carla's eyes wandered off to Natsu and Lucy. Both of them wore serious expressions as they looked back and forth between the mission description and each other. Carla noticed how Lucy looked so nervous and worried when her eyes met Natsu's gaze and vice versa. And the way Natsu would reach out and brush his fingers against the Lucy's fingers just for a moment. He would smile at her. Tell her that everything will be fine.

But...

"NATSU!!!"
