I usually like to sit alone in math class and focus on my own work, but I did not object when Aidan decided to sit beside me. As the class began I could see by his facial expression he isn't interested in what the teacher is saying. He seems to be in his own little world. Why is he in my advanced class? He doesn't seem like he belongs here at all. It is extremely hard to get into this class and I begin to wonder how he managed it with this attitude. Without realising my mind wandered off into the land of daydreaming and thoughts and I was no longer focusing on the task. My train of thought was broken by a voice calling my name from the top of the class.

"Miss Morgen? Hello? Stay focused please. What is the answer for x?" Miss Hue uttered.

Miss Hue is an old teacher in the school, which is probably why she is so good. She is a marvellous teacher. The small round woman always stands at the front of the class and seems to always have her thick glasses rested on her long nose.

"I...um..its.." I struggled to get an answer out of my head since I spend the last few minutes thinking about random stuff instead of solving the equation.

"12.57" Aidan whispered so gently so only I could hear him.

I was sceptical about shouting out the answer he gave me as all Ive seen him do was stare at the board blankly and not attempt to solve any problems but in this situation, I needed any answer as that one seemed close enough to the right one judging by half the solution that I have completed.

"12.57" I gently repeated what Aidan said to me.

"That's correct. Well done. Now Mr.Delayne would you tell the class your answer to question two?"

"Sure. 4.582" Aidan said with full confidence in his voice but I was sure he cannot possibly get this one right.

"Hhmm..Alright, that's correct. Thank you. Did anyone get number 3?" Miss Hue sounded just as surprised as me.

I quickly turned to Aidan and proceeded to ask him what his deal was but I was interrupted by the loud bell telling us that class is over and its time to get some lunch. Before I could say anything, Aidan got up and walked out of the classroom before anyone else could even stand up from their seats. I decided to check my phone again in case Adam has finally texted me. Still nothing. Now I was really starting to worry. As I walked out of the classroom I decided to ring his mother and ask if everything is okay with him. Just as I was about to press the call button a text came in from Adam.

"Don't worry Jess, everything is okay. Im not feeling to well so I stayed home today and slept while my phone was off. Don't come over, I don't want you to catch anything. Just stay away. I will text you when I can. Goodbye:)x"

I was so glad to hear hes okay but I could not shake the weird feeling that something was off. He never wanted me to stay away and whenever one of us were sick it was a tradition for the other to come over and make chicken soup and watch some silly movies all day. But Adam would never lie to me. Maybe he really isn't feeling well. I should stop being paranoid and give him some time to rest.

On my way to the cafeteria I heard some muffled noises coming from the classroom beside it. I couldn't make out what the people were saying but it sounded like two guys having a heated argument over something. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to come closer and peak through the door. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back right? As I came closer I could hear the conversation more clearly but still not perfect.

"Elijah I told you...wouldn't work...fit in.."

"Listen to me, you do as you were told...consequences.....Stupid.."

As I got closer I could tell that one of the voices was Mr.Hayls voice. I could recognise that deep melodic voice anywhere. But who was the other guy and why was the other guy referring to Mr.Hayls as Elijah? That wasn't his name? As I decided to come closer my stomach began to rumble from the lack of breakfast and now lunch. The two men seemed to hear and stop talking. I froze. I heard footsteps getting closer and closer to the door. I quickly turned around and ran to the cafeteria before the person in the room could come out and see me. As I ran inside, the bell went signalling the end of lunch. Great. I decided to quickly grab a banana and a packet of crisps to eat during class as my the pain from hunger got unbearable. I looked around the cafeteria to see if I can find Aidan to show him where his next class was but surprisingly he was nowhere to be seen. I walked out and proceeded to walk to my next class, hoping that he will find his own way since he thinks hes so independent and can just walk away.

As the end of the day neared I became extremely puzzled. I had more classes with Aidan but he did not show up for any of them. I tried to locate him and that in turn made me late to my classes! He is so irresponsible! Where could he be? Did he just leave? I don't even know him that well yet however he already manages to annoy me more than anyone in this school. As the final bell rang I gathered all my things and headed out of the school. As I ran out, eager to get home and eat something I was stopped in my tracks. I caught something, or rather someone, in the corner of my eye. I could swear I seen Adam and Mr.Hayls getting into a car together. They seemed very panicked and in a rush. I squinted my eyes to see more but the vehicle has already pulled away from the carpark and drove away fast. I only caught a glimpse of the person, but im sure it was Adam. But why would he lie to me about being sick? And most importantly why would he miss school and then get into Calebs car? I mean Mr.Hayls. I got to stop calling him by his first name. That is very inappropriate behaviour.

I decided to shake that feeling off and get home quick as the sky was darkening and I felt like it is going to rain very soon. Of course, as soon as I stepped away from the safety of the roof over the school exit I was met by small droplets that were increasing in size falling everywhere. Great. Now I must walk home in the rain. As I was a few feet away from the school a heard a car pull up beside me, the window was rolled down and I heard my name being called.
