BeepThe monitor's echo resonated loudly within the spacious hospital room, keeping track of Rose's steady heartbeat. Although she was in a deep sleep, she could clearly hear the machine, and though it was extremely annoying, she was absolutely grateful she was even alive to hear it. She could be gone right now, a distant memory. But she was here. God had spared her for some reason, and she relished the thought of being given a second chance.
Now if she could just...open her eyes...
It was too much of a struggle, and the beeping sound from the monitor quickened, indicating some sort of distress. A nurse rushed to her side and began assessing her.
"It's okay, honey," the nurse soothed. She wasn't exactly sure if her patient could hear her or not, but she still felt obligated to comfort the young girl.
"You've been through a lot these past couple of days and what you need to do now is rest."
She watched the screen of the heart rate monitor as the rhythm began to return to normal. "Well now, I guess you can hear me, huh?" the nurse smiled, gently placing a hand on Rose's. "Everything's gonna be fine. You just get some rest."The nurse's voice was beautifully soothing to Rose, and as soon as her mind began to relax, she let her thoughts take her back...
