"Happy birthday Rita!" yelled the family around Rita. Rita has brown hair that gleams in the sun with hazel eyes that are covered with big round funny looking turtle shell glasses.

She smiled a wide toothy grin and looked down at the chocolate cake that said her name written in pink.

"Blow out the candles and make a wish!" everyone said.

Rita thought about it for a minute and then said in her head "What I really want is a doll. Not a barbie, but a real wooden one." She knew that dolls were for babies but she didn't care.

She closed her eyes and blew the candles out.

Everyone cheered. Her mother named Karen pushed through the crowd and hugged Rita."Oh my little baby just turned 13," she cried. Her dad named William just smiled and said "Congratulations kiddo".

He never called by her name, he just called her kiddo. "Present time!" exclaimed Brenda. Rita smiled and sat in the middle of the table.

Her relatives all sat around her. "Me first!"yelled Karen in excitement. She hands Rita a present. It was royal purple with a golden ribbon.

Rita shredded the present open to find that inside of it was a diamond iPhone 6s case.

Rita sat there silently with a frown on her face and then Karen frowns too. "You don't like it?" she asked.

"I like it but I don't have a phone."

SNATCH! The mother snatched it out of her weak little hands."Well let's not let it go to waste." she said as she put the phone case on her phone. "Oh and look! It fits perfectly! What a coincidence!"

Everyone looked at her. "WHAT?" she asked. "It's not my fault she doesn't have a phone."

Everyone stayed silent. Then her grandma said "Why don't you open mine. I promise it will be for you." She slowly walked over and handed her a sliver box with a red bow on it.

Rita eyes sparkled as she looked at the present. Rita shredded it open and took out a jewelry box. She opened the box to find a necklace with an angel on it.

Her grandmother spoke up and said "This angel will protect through your darkest and saddest times."

Rita hugged her grandma and said "Thank you." After their cherishing moment, Karen groaned.

Rita glanced at her mom and Karen rolled her eyes and stormed to the kitchen.

William noticed the tears in her eyes as he walked passed Rita. He looked at Brenda. "Sweetie maybe it would be nice if you actually got her a present that was actually for her."

Karen wasn't even listening to what he was saying. She was too busy looking at "Rita's" new phone case.

William went in kitchen to see Rita watching the fish in their fish tank as she sniffled. William walked over to her. "Hey, what's up." He asks.

Rita sniffed and said, "Dad you know what's up. Mom does this every year and it hurts every time. Just once she can get me an actual present that's meant for me??" She began to cry harder.

William hugged Rita, "Listen, everything will turn around one day and everything will be back to the way it was. I promise."

Rita smiled. "Ok Dad I love you." William smiled. "I love you too kiddo. Now why don't you come and enjoy the rest your party."

Rita laughed a little. "Alright Dad."

After her party, Rita went to her room. It was very simple. The room had a blue background because William and Karen were expecting a boy. Rita's name was going to be Angelo until Karen found out that it was a girl and changed the name.

But that didn't stop William, he still did activities with Rita. One time they went to the summer little league for girls 4 years ago.

Rita loved baseball until she couldn't make any teams and no one wanted to be her friend, so she decide to quit.

Rita changed into her pajamas and brushed her teeth. Once she was done, she lay in bed. She slowly closed her eyes but they shot back open remembering how she forgot to pray.

She got on her knees and prayed, She began to speak.

"God, I hope you can hear right now. If you can, do you think you can make Mom love me again. When she was younger and didn't do the.... you know."

"Also can you give me some friends because it gets a little lonely having to talk to myself all the time. Oh and one more, sorry for all the request it's just that a lot is happening you know being double digits and stuff."

"My last request is if you can send a doll my way, not one of those barbie's but an old fashioned doll. One that has beautiful hair and can open and close her eyes and maybe even talk. I know that I'm 13 and dolls are for like 8 year olds but i don't care what people say. Well that's pretty much it. Thank you for listening, Amen."

She slowly got up and began to yawn. William walked in. "Hey kiddo, its time for bed."

She yawned again. "Ok Dad." Her dad sat in the seat next to Rita's bed. Rita got in her bed and lie down. William tucked her in. "Go to bed, you have school tomorrow."

Rita frowned a little. She HATED school so much. No one talked to her and she didn't even have one friend. William kissed her forehead and left the room as he turned off the lights.

Rita wasn't ready for school. Maybe she could call in sick or say something happened but she couldn't.

Rita was going back tomorrow and it was not going to be fun. She slowly closed her eyes went to sleep.
