It was a cloudy and gloomy day. The clouds were gray and covered the sky, along with the sun, leaving the world cold and dark.

A little girl steps outside with her rubber boots and raincoat, hoping to jump in puddles. The little girl wad quite the lonely one, having been living near the dark forest where no one else resided in. The girl hummed her favorite song and strolled on the dirt road, jumping in small puddles every now and then, creating small splashes of hurricanes.

As she did so, she noticed small prints on the wet mud- leading off the muddy pathway. She followed it, out of curiosity and came across a tree, which have fallen down due to the storm last night. She tilted her head to the side and walked closer to the fallen tree.

There was a faint sound. So faint that you'd have to have a dog's hearing to hear it, but the girl heard it. She furrowed her brows and walked even closer to the tree.

There was a faint whimper. The girl climbed over the tree and stomped on it. Something underneath yelped and began howling.

"E-eh!?" the girl let out a confused cry and jumped off the wet tree, "A puppy!?"

There was a big whole at the root of the tree. The girl ran over to the whole and looked inside. The tree was hollow, but there wasn't enough light to see. But far into the tree, there was movement, and the whimpering was louder.

"Puppy?" the girl called out.

Luckily, the girl was small and petite. She would have no trouble crawling in the fallen tree. And that's just what she did. She squeezed her tiny body into the tree, and as best as she could, crawl through the tree. As she got closer to what she assumed was a puppy, the whimpering got louder.

She grunted and she crawled, it was getting more stuffy as she crawled but finally. She reached the puppy.

"Puppy? Are you okay?" she asked. She poked at the animal. It yelped. Panicking, she held it in her arms and crawled backwards, out of the tree.

The clouds had parted and revealed the beautiful blue sky. The sun smiled down at the world and its' smile gave off warmth.

In the girl's arms laid a lifeless and cold puppy. It's wet black fur glistened in the sunlight. The girl gasped, "Is he dead!?"

In a hurry, she ran home to revive the puppy. Her father was a vet, so luckily, the puppy was revived and brought back to health.

And that's how the girl gained a new friend.

"Did you enjoy the story, honey?" a woman, in her early thirties asked her 10 year old child.

"Yes, mom. But we're not little kids anymore so you don't have to tuck us in and read us bedtime stories like you used to do. Kuro and I are old now!" you groaned. You've grown tired of these bedtime stories and it embarrassed you whenever you and Kuro had a sleepover.

"I enjoyed it ma'am! Thank you for tucking us in and reading us bedtime stories!" Kuro grinned.

Your mother smiled, "You're welcome, Kuro. And Y/N, I know you're not little kids anymore but this used to be your favorite story!"

"Mom!" You groaned and pulled your covers over your head, "Just let us sleep..."

"Alright, alright," she got up and turned off the lamp. She then made her way out and slowly, closing the door and saying her usual "Goodnight, don't let the wolf boy bite."

You rolled your eyes then turned to Kuro who was alreading facing you. Tonight, your mom had let you and Kuro sleep in your small tent and sleeping bags. Your mom didn't let you ever go camping so this was as close as you'd ever get to it.

"Hey Kuro." you whispered.

"What is it?" he whispered back, smiling.

"You'll always be my best friend, right? You have to! Cross your heart! Do it. Do it right now!" you ordered.

Kuro, keeping his smile on, crossed his heart.

"Okay. You crossed your heart!" you giggled and snuggled into your pillow, yawning.

"Goodnight, Kuro. Today was a fun day." you closed your eyes.

"Goodnight, Y/N." Kuro said softly as he, too, closed his eyes.

Slowly, you drifted off to dreamland... Except Kuro. After he was sure you were deep into sleep, he got up and crawled into your sleeping bag and snuggled up against you, letting out a small, "Mine..."
