Allison doesn't know how else to emphasize to pretty much everyone she knows that it's the big day other than saying oh my god practically every ten seconds.

She's usually calmer and more collected than this but, "Oh my god, Toby asked me out," she says for the thousandth time.

"I know, Allison," Daniel says into the phone and Allison can practically hear him rolling his eyes. "You've said it like a billion times."

"I just..." Allison doesn't know how to explain what she feels. And she's trying really hard but she just can't form any coherent sentences except, "Oh my god."

"I'm hanging up, Allison."

"No, wait!" Allison says. She's having a lot of trouble getting ready since Lydia is away with her parents for the summer and no word on this entire Earth can correctly convey how much she misses Lydia Huntington. "Please, I need you."

"Look, I don't get why you're stressing," Daniel tells her. "You've gone out loads of times before."

"That's different. We watched musicals," she reasons. "I don't really think watching Legally Blonde The Musical counts as a date. And we must not forget the fact that if he's not practically performing the musical we're watching, he's either laughing or bawling his eyes out beside me on the couch."

"Well, I've got to admit watching girls singing Omigod You Guys isn't the most romantic thing on Earth," he jokes and Allison rolls her eyes. "Anyway, no, I mean after that."

"I asked him before," she explains, rolling her eyes. "This time, he asked me."

"What's the difference?"

"Lydia would probably start debating with you by now."

"Then why don't you just call Lydia?" Daniel complains.

"I've tried but the call won't go through," she says, holding up a navy blue dress in front of her in the mirror, then shakes her head. "What do you think I should wear?"

"Are you seriously asking me that question?" Daniel says. "You weren't like this when we were going out."

"Oh trust me, I was," Allison says before she can stop herself. "Lydia was just always there to pick out everything."

"Speaking of Lydia," he drawls and Allison's brows furrow. "Have you told her yet?"

"Told her what?" she asks even though she knows perfectly well what he's talking about.

"You know."

"No," Allison responds. "She doesn't need to know right now."

"Isn't it a bit awkward for you, though?" Daniel asks.

"It was, at first." She doesn't know why but her eyes trail to the picture of her and Lydia by her dresser and she stares for a few seconds (a few seconds meaning a long while.) "But I guess teasing her about it made it a whole lot easier."

"Just tell her," Daniel says softly and the tone of his voice surprises Allison a bit. "It won't change things. I'm pretty sure nothing can ruin your friendship with Lydia."

Nothing can ruin your friendship with Lydia. Nothing can ruin it. Nothing. Allison loves repeating these words in her head. Daniel's right. She and Lydia are practically forever. "Yeah."

"So..." Daniel clears his throat. "Where is Toby taking you, anyway?"

"I don't really know." She shrugs then picks up a yellow dress and inspects it for a while. "Where do you think he would take me?"
