-----Anaya
The teachers started announcing where every student would be going to college.
Anaya: Brown Uni
Aleyna: Rutgers Uni
Saad: NYU
Abhi: Oxford Uni
My eyes widened in shock once I heard that Abhi's going to Oxford. All throughout High School, I just viewed him as a conceited jock but fact is that he is a smart jock.
I heard girls by my table whispering,
"Abhi's so perfect. He's got the looks, the rep, and the brains."
"This is the last time we are seeing him."
"He's so hot..does he have to leave?!"
I chuckled at the last comment.
The music started again and yet again another cliche pop song starts playing by Katy Perry. I do like this song though.
Aleyna grabbed my arm and she dragged me onto the dance floor. We started swaying our hips, laughing and singing along to the song addressing hopeless romantics.
"We can dance until we die..you and I..will be young forever!"
Looking down at my watch, I read that it was 10:30. Shit..the hotel was pretty far from my house so I had to leave early to get home in time before my dad would freak out. Aleyna wanted to say longer so she said she would eventually find a ride home.
Snuggling into my coat, I made my way to my car in the parking garage. My heels making a loud noise in the empty parking garage as I looked for my car. The parking garage was huge and I forgot where I parked.
I started pacing the rows, trying to look for my car.
I stopped once a bright light shined on to my face almost blinding me by its suddenness.
Peaking through my fingers, I realized it was from a car's headlights.
I looked into the car to realize it was Abhi, turning the keys to turn on the engine. Janet was reaching over from the passenger seat, caressing his face, trying to get his attention. Abhi looked up to have his eyes connect with mine. His eyes widened in shock. I turned away quickly, walking away to continue looking for my car.
That was surely awkward. Ugh I shouldn't have looked in the car. I pressed the lock button on my keys again and heard my car beep. I finally found it.
---- The next morning
I boosted myself out of bed and walked to my dresser. I grabbed the comfiest clothes I could find and padded into the bathroom to wash up.
Maa called mine and my brothers name from the kitchen,
"Anaya and Ayan! Come have your breakfast."
"Coming Maa!"
I rushed into the kitchen and put a keurig cup in the coffee machine.
The greatest thing about Saturdays is waffles and coffee for breakfast made by my lovely maa.
Ayan came into the kitchen in his shorts, holding a basketball.
"Maa, I have to leave soon. The game is supposed to start at 10:00 and it's 9.30 already!"
Ayan plays for his school team in middle school and he loves it. He's supposed to have a huge game today so maa is going to cheer him on.
Before they rushed out of the house, Maa turned to me to say,
"Clean the house while I'm gone! We have your dad's office friend's families finally coming over."
"Ugh why? I hate having people over."
"Can't you be a little excited? Your dads been so busy that he kept delaying the dinner and he's finally having it. Be a little positive just for him."
I sighed and started searching for the vacuum so that I could start cleaning.
-----
"Anaya! Are you ready? You better not be in your room when they come."
"I'm almost ready Maa!"
I was actually far from being ready but I knew it wouldn't take me much time. I started with doing my eye makeup. I put concealer to cover my horrendous dark circles. Then I moved on to apply a mocha brown shade to the crease and then shaded my lid with a beige. Lastly I added some color on my lips and moved onto my hair.
I let down my wet hair from the towel I had wrapped it in after my shower. I ran my hands through my light waves and let it air dry.
Moving into my closet, I started scanning my racks for something acceptable.
I settled for a beige, quarter sleeved lace top with a short, flared slightly poofy black skirt with sheer, black tights underneath.
Walking down the stairs, I smelt the pleasing aroma of spices which my maa was cooking. I ran to her and placed a kiss upon her cheek while hugging her from the back.
"Maa, is my outfit fine?"
She turned to look at me and pinched my cheeks.
"You look beautiful, love. Now please help set up the dining table. The guests should be arriving soon. Make Ayan come down to open the window blinds. Oh God! I forgot all about the chicken in the oven!!"
I smiled as she frantically opened the oven to sigh at the sight of the chicken not being burnt. My maa is quite patient and honestly very caring. She'll work so hard to have everything in the house be perfect and welcoming for a guest. She's been calmly planning to have this night be perfect all week. But eventually there is a point where she gets tense and starts worrying about every small detail in the house. I held her shoulders and turned her around to face me again.
"Maa, please stop worrying. Everything is perfect like always. Now go upstairs and freshen up. I've got everything in controlll."
I winked at her and she started laughing.
"Alrightt. I'm just going to go change."
Once she walked up the stairs, I went into the dining room and started setting up the table.
"Anaya."
I turned to look at Ayan.
"What?"
"The guests are outside, knocking on the door." He whispered.
"Well, why aren't you answering?"
"Because I simply don't feel like it. I'll finish up with the table. You should go answer."
I sighed and made my way to go answer the door.
A cold wind hit me once I opened the door. I shut my eyes for a brief second due to the sudden sensation of the cold air hitting my bare self.
I opened my eyes to see a short woman with a coat on.
She gasped and hugged me instantly. I laughed slightly in confusion. She smelled like roses which reminded me of my aunt. I looked up once I heard a chuckle. My eyes widened once they connected with a certain egocentric jock.
He was holding a little girl's hands and smirking with a bouquet of flowers in his other hand.
I raised my right eyebrow at the sight of him in front of my door.
The woman released me from her warm hug and began speaking to me.
"You've grown into such a beautiful woman! Do you even remember me? It's been forever."
"Jaya!" My mom screamed from the stairs in happiness.
I turned back to the woman with my eyes widened in realization.
"Aunt Jaya!!!! Oh my god, how are you? I haven't seen you since I was in elementary school."
Jaya was my mom's best friend. They grew close through college which my mom went back to finish when I was in elementary school.
She laughed and answered after hugging my mom.
"I'm good. It was definitely hard to adjust to everything in Oklahoma for my past job, but I made my way through it. Oh! Before I completely forget to introduce you to my nephew, this is Abhi, he's my brother's son who's been helping me with everything since I moved back."
Abhi smiled and raised his right hand to greet my maa.
"Hello, thank you so much for having me. Sorry for showing up so unexpectedly, Aunt Jaya sort of forced me to come."
Woah he's being such a gentleman which is shocking and dare I say...impressive.
My maa smiled and shook his hand.
"Oh stop. It's not a problem at all. I love welcoming new guests!! My name is Saira. Feel free to call me Aunt Saira. Have a seat please. I'll be right back."
"Same." I said and rushed into the kitchen after my maa.
Ugh, this nights going to be so awkward, why was he here??
