Stella sat at her computer and entered her facebook page. She clicked on her friend requests to find one from a girl named Lucy. She had also sent a message saying that they went to the same school and that she would tell her in school on monday. She then accepted the request.
She checked her wall to see her best friend, Juliet, ask her if she wanted to meet soon and to chat her when she could. She checked her online friends and began talking to Juliet.
Stella Martin: Hey!
Juliet Rutter: Hi! Whats up?
Stella Martin:nm just got home from ballet.
Juliet Rutter: You wanna meet at Mangy Tango?
Stella Martin: C ya in 15 mins.
Stella exited out of her page and began to get ready. Mangy Tango was a smoothie shop on the Upper west side which Stella and Juliet had loved ever since they were kids. Stella and Juliet had also stated as a joke that they worked there on their facebook pages.
She texted her mom where she was going and left. After walking 8 blocks she reached out of breath and sweating. The weather was around 104 degrees and she was still in her ballet outfit which consisted of a stick to the skin leotard, thick sweatpants and a warm sweatshirt along with socks and sneakers.
ONE HOUR LATER
Stella had just finished her third smoothie, a strawberry surf blast. She tried calling Juliet again. There was no answer. She got tired and left. On her way home, she spotted Juliets older brother, Max. She asked him where Juliet was.
"Hey Max, do you have any clue where Juliet is?"
"Yes, she just left the house ten minutes ago to go to her friend, Elizabeth's house. She left her phone at home so im just dropping it off" He glanced at the screen and saw that there were 18 missed calls from Stella. "Ill tell her you called- 18 times!"
"Ya she sorta stood me up" Stella said with a shrug.
"Oh ill yell at her for that!" Max then said goodbye and contined down the block.
Stella got home and had a slice of lefover pizza from the fridge. She then logged back into facebook. There was one new message she clicked on it.
'Hey Stella! Its me Lucy. I recently caught mono so I will not be in school for another week or so. Its a very high case. But I would love to keep chating you. Ill send you a picture of me.'
Stella checked her wall and saw a picture of Lucy Blackburn, a younger girl from her grade. She had skipped two grades and was rarely noticed.
She then replied saying " Aww Lucy hope you feel better."
In another building somewhere, Lucy Blackburn was offered a free drink by a strange man at starbucks. Realizing that she had forgotten her wallet, she took it. Instantly she felt feverish and began throwing up. She was rushed to the hospital and diagonosed with Mono and was instructed to stay home for a week. Lucy wished that she had a facebook so she could keep in touch with her friends who were 13 and 14 but she was only 10 and had to wait till she was older. She had no facebook yet.
