Paige sat in an empty coat room after Tabitha's funeral was over and the guests were just chatting or crying about their memories they had with her. She stared blankly in thought and wished that her aunt would've been spared but, the good news was that she had received word that the cult was disbanding due to the fall of their leader. She was taken from her thoughts when she felt someone's weight settle next to her; it was Nathan. He looked at his cousin with bloodshot eyes. He leaned his dark brown haired head on her shoulder.

"You know, you're always welcome at our house, anytime, no matter what you're still my family even if Clé dislikes you."

He lifted his head up from her shoulder and looked her in her eyes. Paige could tell that he was hiding something.

"I'd love to visit sometime,"

Nathan's face brightened when she responded with that.

"Nathan, I can tell you're hiding something, I'm sure it can't be that bad so why don't you share it with me."

"I'm sorry, I couldn't resist, I just wanted to know where you've been. I kind of, well I kind of went through your journals,"

Paige frowned slightly at this, her eyes went downcast. Nathan uneasily looked up at her again and then looked down.

"I want to meet him, the Näcken, I guess grandfather and mother weren't so crazy after all."

Paige was taken aback by this.

"Well, I would be happy to take you to him I can't, he doesn't want anymore people knowing what he really is unless he has to, it's more for our safety. Also, he's Fossegrim not Näcken.''

"Oh. Well, bye anyway until you come visit." He smiled and made his way out.

Paige finally arrived home with a car that Nathan gave her and made her way across the tall grass to her love. She saw that Fossegrim hadn't noticed her yet. He looked up when she was standing right by him. He smiled weakly at her, he tried to stand but decided that it was best to remain sitting against the wall. The gauze and cloth wrapped around his chest was stained with black fluid that served as his blood. She looked at this with concern as she lowered herself onto her knees, she gently touched the material and was relieved that it dry. She checked his limbs and saw that they healed with only small circular scars remaining. Paige decided to limp into the cabin and grab some fresh gauze and rubbing alcohol. While Paige was changing the gauze around his chest stopping every once in awhile due to him letting out a gasp of pain from the dried blood acting as a holdfast. She noticed that he is holding something in his left fist, though she continued with her work and when she was finished with the task she leaned against the wall beside him as he put his arm around her and rested his head above hers. They just sat there in sweet serenity taking in the harvest orange colors that the setting sun let out as it reflected on the lake and sky. Paige had her head resting on Fossegrim's right shoulder lazily and didn't take notice of him lifting up his clasped hand until it brushed against her stomach. She looked down at his hand.

"What are you giving me?"
She remained looking at his hand and then lightly gasped as he presented her with a beautiful wooden ring with a blue trim.
"A wedding ring?"

"No, an engagement ring. Be mine for as long as you're alive. I learned that this is something that's given between two humans to want to be together in unity."

"I shall, my darling spirit."

They interlocked their lips in a passionate kiss.

The whole time Paige thought about her future, maybe she can finally have a semi-happy life. One that is calm and beautiful. But, she kept thinking about how short her life is compared to his. Maybe the gods could give her eternal life."

End.

If you have questions ask. I'll try to answer the best I can.
This is the first book I've written from the top of my head before so I'm sorry it's a little rough and sometimes hard to follow.😑😐😬
