   CARMALLA'S POV

I walked down the streets of Compton, California, which was my normal routine of getting some fresh air. I will tell you I definitely wasn't that girl that was gonna run 10 or 15 blocks, and then jog the rest. Nahh, I'm good.
I was fine with walking. It was almost 8:00 and the breeze felt nice. I decided to put some headphones in and listen to one of the Pandora radio stations. (If you don't like using Pandora, then it can be Spotify or whatever..)

I began to start jogging, but I quit a few seconds later. As I went to cross the street, a young, yet handsome man approached me.
He had to have been about 6 ft. I was only 5'3, so he had some height on me. His brown eyes were.. perfect. Well, to me they were..

He said,"Isn't it late for a woman like you to be roaming the streets alone?"

I defended myself saying,"For your information, I walk at this time every single day. I can take care of myself just fine. My father warned me about talking to strangers, too."

I began to walk away and he grabbed my arm saying,"Hey, I'm just trying to look out for you. I didn't mean it like you were at a disadvantage, because you were a woman, but because you're beautiful. Beautiful women tend to be targets, and I don't think you should be one."

I smiled at the man, but I held out my hand saying,"I'm Carmalla. You are?"

He shook my hand and replied,"T'Challa. King of.."

I finished for him saying,"Wakanda. I'm sorry for your loss."

T'Challa seemed surprised and I said,"Your name. It immediately struck a bell. Also, the accent. You see, I'm from Wakanda, too, but I came here to see what places like California were like. Actually, it wasn't my choice. Your mother sent me here. She thought it would help with my laziness."

T'Challa chuckled and said,"Sounds like my mother. Did this help?"

I shook my head and replied,"No. I'm more lazy than when I left, but don't tell her that. I'm actually starting to feel a little homesick."

T'Challa said,"Come back with me, then?"

  I said,"T'Challa, she'll realize I'm still lazy.."

T'Challa crossed his arms and said,"Let me handle that. We all get lazy, Carmalla. It's normal. Even Shuri gets lazy."

I smiled at T'Challa and he smiled back, before I asked him,"What about my things here?"

T'Challa said,"We, well you can always come back. My apologies."

I nodded and T'Challa took me back to Wakanda. On the way there, I nodded to Okoye, who was quite well-known of Wakanda.

She nodded back to me and asked T'Challa,"You brought back a gift, my king?"

T'Challa gazed at me and replied,"Of course I did. I always deliver. I take it you two are well acquainted with one another?"

Okoye chuckled and said,"Yes, we are. She is my sister. Was your mission successful, Y/N?"

  I answered,"No."

Okoye just smiled, and I checked my afro through one of the glass openings.

I groaned and said,"Why is it so hot?"

I began to fan myself with my hand, and T'Challa laughed.

  Okoye said,"You're breathing too hard."

I rolled my eyes and Okoye said,"I'm kidding, sister. Only kidding. Look..We are here."

I walked towards the front. T'Challa and Okoye joined me. When the door opened, I spotted Ramonda, Shuri, and the strong yet fierce women guards standing by.

Ramonda noticed me and immediately hugged me saying,"Oh, Carmalla, it's so good to see you. You look well. Honey, what are you wearing?"

T'Challa laughed at me and I elbowed him in the stomach, making him bend over in pain.

I said,"This is what they wear in California."

Ramonda looked over at Okoye and said,"Get her some Wakandan attire please."

Okoye nodded and I went to walk with her, but T'Challa held me back.

He said,"Meet me at the waterfall, okay?"

I smiled and nodded, turning to walk with Okoye.

Okoye said,"I wonder what he wishes to speak to you about..Maybe about that ridiculous attire."

I said,"Whatever..This is unique and it's not ridiculous. You've just never seen it before."

Okoye rolled her eyes and she walked me to my old room, before I changed into a nice dress and flats.
I looked around for the waterfall and walked there, but then I noticed T'Challa looked like he was deep in thought.

I decided not to interrupt and just looked out towards the sunset.

When T'Challa finally noticed me, I asked him,"What were you doing in California?"

T'Challa replied,"That is for me to know, but if you must know, I had business to take care of."

I overlooked his response and asked him,"Why did you want me to meet you here?"

T'Challa smiled and admitted to me,"I wanted to learn more about California, as well, but more so about you, Carmalla."

I smiled and nodded saying,"Fair enough. Okay, T'Challa, you may want to sit down for this story."

T'Challa said,"I'm fine standing. Thank you.."

I narrowed my eyes at him, and T'Challa sat down. I sat down beside him and began to tell him everything I learned...

   3 YEARS LATER..

"T'Challa, have you seen my necklace?"

T'Challa walked in the room and said,"No, Carmalla. I haven't seen your necklace. You mean the one I gave you after our wedding?"

  I replied,"Yes, T'Challa, that one. What's with the attitude?"

T'Challa placed a kiss on my lips and admitted to me,"You said you liked it. I'm just trying to understand, Carmalla, because you have many necklaces. I did not mean it in a negative way. I'm truly sorry."

I sighed and said,"It's fine, baby. It's fine. I'm sorry for my attitude. I'm just trying to find my necklace. I didn't mean to lose it."

T'Challa took something from behind his back, and it was my necklace. I let out a sigh of relief, and he placed it around my neck.

He wrapped his arms around me and said,"Sometimes, you just have to count on me to take care of your things as well, my queen. All right?"

I nodded, and T'Challa continued to hold me. I couldn't even imagine what I would do without this man as my beloved husband.
