I applied slightly more mascara to my eyelashes before getting a final look at myself in the mirror. I didn’t look half bad. My lips were colored a light red color to add a brilliant effect to my face. My hair was slightly curled, since I failed with the curling iron, but it flowed down to my shoulders rather elegantly.
I had changed into dark skinny jeans and a tight cut-up black and red long sleeve shirt. I had originally wanted to wear a dress. I had two to pick from, but one was a sundress that didn’t seem right for the occasion and the other was too short.
I put on small black shoes with a very tiny hint of a heel at the bottom. There was a large wedge that covered it, so it didn’t seem too inappropriate for the outfit. I checked myself once more in the mirror and walked out of the room.
I smiled to my mom and gave her a quick peck on the cheek when I saw her in the hallway. I had told her earlier that I was going out with Tabby and possibly wouldn’t be back until much later. She had given me a questioning look but silently nodded in agreement.
I went into the living room to find Jerry and Louie playing video games. I glanced at the clock to find it was already seven forty-five, and Tabby was still not here. Better yet, Jerry and Louie had decided to spend their friday night playing video games.
I glanced over at the two and shook my head.
“You guys are losers,” I stated firmly, gently running my hands through my hair. Jerry and Louie looked over their shoulders and stared at me. Jerry paused the game.
“What are you so dressed up for?” he inquired, rising up from the couch. I smiled at him and sauntered over to counter to grab my phone, wallet, and the slip of paper I had rewritten Jake’s number on.
“I’m going to a party with Tabby and Jake,” I told him. I heard a shuffling of footsteps before I saw Louie come over to stand by me.
“I don’t like that guy. I don’t trust him,” Louie proclaimed. I tried to slip the paper into my wallet, but accidentally dropped it.
“I’m sure he wouldn’t like you either,” I retorted, receiving a scowl from Louie. He bent down to pick up the paper I dropped, gazing at it with curiosity.
“What’s this?” he asked, flipping it over to see if there was anything on the other side. I tried to snatch it from him, but he pulled it out of my reach. I sighed, frustrated.
“Jake’s number,” I muttered, “Now give it back.” He scoffed, grabbing a pen from the counter and scribbling something on the other side. I grabbed it from him and stared at a set of random numbers.
“That’s my number,” he explaining, smiling at me, “Give me a call whenever you get lonely.” He laughed when I gave him a creeped-out look before slipping the paper into my back pocket. I heard a car honking outside and quickly slipped my phone and wallet into my other back pocket.
“See you later, guys!” I called out.
“Don’t get pregnant!” was the response I got from Jerry. I smiled to myself, closing the door behind me with a light-hearted smile. I saw Tabby sitting in her prized 2008 Toyota Camry, beaming with pride and waving at me to hurry up. I could tell she was way more excited than I was.
As I got closer to the car, I realized there was a sense of urgency in her eyes and movements. I opened the door and hopped in.
“Hey, what’s up?” I ask her, slamming the door. She winced at the harsh sound and gave me a look that told me not to slam her baby. She put the car in reverse and drove back.
